主創陣容
本片導演兼編劇鄧肯·圖克爾曾在2000年，以一部20分鍾的短片《The Mountain King》引起矚目。《穿越美國》則是圖克爾歷經五年之後，推出的長片處女作。
女主角菲麗西提·霍夫曼也是熱門劇集《絕望的主婦》的女主演之一。現年43歲的霍夫曼在影視道路上也經歷了不少坎坷，《穿越美國》是她第一次在影片中獲得的重要主角。她在本片中扮演一位曾經是男人的女人，不但有年齡跨度還有性別跨度，難度極大。霍夫曼接受了這個挑戰，同時也取得了成功，給她的事業打開了一個新的局面。由於霍夫曼完全演活了一個長期扮演男性角色的人努力學習作個女人的情態，不僅使她成為第63屆金球獎最佳女主角(劇情類)的大熱人選，更有許多人都大膽預測她很有機會憑此片問鼎第78屆奧斯卡影後。
扮演「問題少年」兒子托比的凱文·席格斯在本片中的表現可圈可點。席格斯出生於1984年，曾經是一名童星，主演過《神犬也瘋狂》系列、《劫後重逢》、《鬼擋路》等片……
影片簡評
《穿越美國》是一部關於「變性」題材的喜劇公路片，講述了一個有變性癖、正在籌錢做變性手術並准備變成女人的「男人」的故事。本片值得青睞的絕不僅於它略帶輕松的氛圍，而是在舉重若輕的節奏里，對變性這一沖擊社會正統倫理觀的敏感話題做出了充滿尊嚴而又幽默的詮釋，讓人在笑聲中不由得為之深深感動。
本片的亮點集中於扮演變性人的女星菲麗西提·霍夫曼身上。從霍夫曼在片中的表演來看，無論體態、表情還是心理，都刻畫得入木三分。如果沒有她自毀形象，壓低嗓音的出色演繹，這部片子很難成功。據說，在觀看完影片後，許多不識其身份的觀眾都忍不住問導演這位「男」主角是從哪裡發掘的，得知「他」其實是個資深女演員後，不由得大為贊嘆……
