背景資料：
本片是迪斯尼第3部經典動《幻想曲》的續篇，《幻想曲》是迪斯尼1940年推出的一部古典音樂非劇情動畫片。原本沃特迪斯尼打算每隔幾年就重推出《幻想曲》新版，每次新增或移除一些段落，然而後因為諸多因素此計劃並未實行，一直到了近幾年，《幻想曲》的續篇才正式開始製作，誠如沃特迪斯尼原本的構想，續篇保留了1940年版的某些部分，又再加入一些新的曲目。在影片完工後，迪斯尼公司作了一個部試映，普遍認為以當今電影的眼光來看感覺太長、節奏也太慢，而且本片又有IMAX版本，如果一部IMAX電影太長的，恐怕觀眾會吃不消，所以迪斯尼公司決定刪掉一些1940年版本的舊段落，只保留下「魔法的徒弟（TheSorcerer'sApprentice）」。這樣《幻想曲2000》的片長只有90分鍾，而當年的《幻想曲》長達124分鍾。
主要風格志在表現畫面與音樂相互契合的純視聽享受，而相隔六十年，迪斯尼動畫的技巧已不可與當日而語，本片的某些段落就運用了迪斯尼近年來最引以為傲的電腦動畫技術。另外在內容方面，不但保留了米老鼠主演的「魔法師的徒弟」，連唐老鴨也主演了一個段落。
音樂：本片大部分段落由JamesLevine指揮的Chicago管弦樂團演出。「Gershwin'sRhapsodyinBlue」和「Dukas'TheSorcerer'sApprentice」兩段由Philharmonia管弦樂團所演出。
