邁克爾·基頓、布魯斯·威利斯、羅伯特·德尼羅、阿爾·帕西諾、達斯汀·霍夫曼都拒絕了Chili Palmer這個角色。而這個角色導演心中的第一人選是獨具魅力的丹尼·德維托，但由於檔期問題最終德維托扮演了一個戲分較少的角色Martin Weir。
根據編劇Elmore Leonard所說，Martin Weir這個角色來靈感來自他跟達斯汀·霍夫曼的交往。
製片方原來想請昆汀·塔倫蒂諾導演此片。而兩年後，塔倫蒂諾導演了另一部由Elmore Leonard小說改編的電影《危險關系》 (Jackie Brown)。
Chili Palmer的名字來自，編劇Elmore Leonard的朋友 Ernest 'Chili' Palmer，他在片中扮演了 Ray Barboni的朋友之一。
