歌曲來源於迪士尼的第二部動畫長片《匹諾曹》的中匹諾曹的爸爸向星星許願，希望能讓他有個兒子時的插曲。

本片是迪士尼電影公司重新整理編撰1940年的「幻想曲」故事而成，其中包括一段舊「幻想曲」中的米老鼠變魔術的段落，而其他七個段落全是2000年嶄新的創作。這次唐老鴨也如願以償當上主角,主演一段由諾亞方舟改編的故事。

夢幻王國之父沃爾特迪斯尼靠卡通起家，覺得可以將卡通由通俗文化提升到藝術的層次，實行雅俗共賞。當年的迪斯尼佔領外地土地 的野心未如今日大，的確是個夢幻王國，沃爾特叔叔最大的野心仍是專注於卡通發展上。他提議將古典音樂結合卡通，在當年可說是非常 激進大膽，而"沃爾特叔叔"最私人、最心愛的《幻想曲》便在1940 年誕生了。
雖然《幻想曲》一映當年反應好壞參半，但時至六十年後的今日，《幻想曲》已成為迪斯尼動畫庫中最有歷史和紀念價值的資產。而且為慶祝千禧年的來臨，迪斯尼便決定將"沃爾特叔叔"親生的《幻想曲》修輯，再重新配樂，替這個親生子洗干凈衣裳，漂漂亮亮的迎 接新世紀，同時亦加插新片段，證明與時代並進。不過，洗衣服的主意原來不及新衣好，《幻想曲》原本配合七段樂章的動畫變成只剩一 段，改頭換面的《幻想曲2000》仍源用沃爾特叔叔將動畫與古典音樂 結合的思想，但破天荒以IMAX膠片制式製作，即以比傳統35米厘大十倍的膠片製作，亦表現了動畫科技進步。
