亨弗萊·鮑嘉，高中就讀於安達沃預備學校。1918年7月，高中畢業的鮑嘉加入美國海軍。雖然在服役期間，他接受了軍事訓練，但是從未真正執行過任務。退役後，他進入一家劇院做雜工。在劇院工作期間，他對表演產生了興趣，並且學習了與戲劇有關的知識。

1998年，為了紀念美國電影誕生百年（1896-1996），美國電影學會從推薦的四百多部影片中挑選，然後綜合學術界、製作業界和普通觀眾的投票，評選出過去一百年裡美國電影的代表作。這些作品集中了全美國一百多個電影發行公司的作品。
年代方面，1939年共五部電影入選，分別是《亂世佳人》《綠野仙蹤》《史密斯先生去華盛頓》《呼嘯山莊》《關山飛度》，1939年也成為了電影史上的超白金年代；在名單前十名的經典電影中，四十年代出品的電影占據頭兩名，分別是《公民凱恩》和《北非諜影》，三十年代則有《亂世佳人》《綠野仙蹤》這兩部1939年的片子入選，五十年代也有兩部《碼頭風雲》《雨中曲》，六十年代的《阿拉伯的勞倫斯》《畢業生》占據兩個名額，70年代有《教父》，90年代有《辛德勒名單》，而八十年代的電影，卻成了這次評選的輸家，排名最靠前的是1982年的《憤怒的公牛》，僅名列第24名。
