It tells the story of Simba, a lion cub who flees the family home when his dad - King Mufasa - snuffs it and wicked Uncle Scar tricks him into thinking it was his fault. He grows up tucked away in a jungle hiding place, alongside newfound buddies Timon and Pumbaa (a meerkat and a wart-hog, in case you're wondering), before eventually plucking up the courage to return to the Pride Lands and take back what's rightfully his.
Some great work from the casting department means we get the right celebrity voices to match the right characters, including Jeremy Irons as Scar, Whoopi Goldberg as a cackling hyena, Matthew Broderick as the alt Simba and James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair as the King and Queen .
There's no denying that viewed from start to finish this is a wonderful movie experience, and certainly one of Disney's finest hour-and-a-halves. The jaw-dropping backdrops would completely steal the show were it not for the engrossing, charming and often funny adventure story bounding along in the foreground.

the king of all lions, Mufasa has a baby called Simba. This greatly angers Mufasa's brother Scar, who would have been next in line to the throne. Scar plots to kill Simba and Mufasa, and leads them to a gorge. There Mufasa is killed by a herd of Wildebeest, and Simba is led to believe by Scar that he is responsible for his death. Simba then runs away, and Scar becomes king of the pridelands. After several years, in which time Simba has grown up, he returns with the help of some new friends to the pridelands, where he has a final battle with Scar and wins back the pridelands.

4.A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. After years of exile he is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper and claim the kingdom as his own thus completing the "Circle of Life".

充滿智慧的老狒狒 ——巫師拉飛奇為小辛巴興起行了洗禮，他捧起一把細沙撒在小辛巴頭上。可是獅王的兄弟刀疤對辛巴的出生仇恨不已，他認為如果不是辛巴，自己將會繼承王位，因此在他心中埋下了罪惡的種子。
時光飛逝，辛巴已經長成健康、聰明的小獅子了，可他的叔叔刀疤卻一刻也沒有放棄對他的嫉恨。一次，在刀疤的引誘下，辛巴和好朋友娜娜去國界外的大象墓地探險，3隻受刀疤指使的鬣狗開始圍攻辛巴，辛巴和娜娜害怕極了。在這危急的時刻，獅王木法沙突然出現了，他怒吼一聲，嚇得鬣狗們拔腿就逃。辛巴和娜娜得救了。
刀疤對辛巴被救十分惱怒，他陰險地決定殺掉木法沙，他向鬣狗們許諾等除掉木法沙和辛巴、自己當上國王後，就讓他們順理成章地進入獅子王國。
幾天以後，刀疤又引誘辛巴到了一個山谷，然後指使鬣狗們追擊角馬。大批角馬朝辛巴狂奔過來，穆法沙又及時趕到，救出辛巴，可自己卻被弟弟刀疤推下了山谷。
洪水般的角馬群沖過去了，辛巴在死寂的山谷里發現了一動不動的父親。他心裡悲痛而內疚，以為是自己害死了父親。別有用心的刀疤極力慫恿辛巴逃走，同時又命令鬣狗們殺死他。辛巴在荊棘叢的掩護下逃脫了，鬣狗們向著辛巴逃遠的背影尖叫道：「永遠別再回來，回來就殺死你!」從此，刀疤登上了王位，並把鬣狗們引入了獅子王國。
辛巴一路沒命地奔逃，直到再也跑不動了，昏倒在地上。兩位好心的朋友——機智聰明的貓鼬丁滿和心地善良的野豬彭彭救了他。
丁滿和彭彭教導辛巴要無憂無慮，不想過去，不想未來，也沒有責任，只要為今天而活就可以了。日子一天天過去了，辛巴成長為一頭英俊的雄獅。
一次偶然之間，辛巴和兒時的夥伴娜娜相遇了。娜娜告訴，自從刀疤當上國王後，大家就處在水深火熱之中，她要辛巴回到獅子王國，可是辛巴沒有答應。巫師拉法奇也找到辛巴，在他的勸說和父親神靈的教導下，辛巴決定回獅子王國拯救子民。
辛巴憤怒地向著刀疤挑戰：「我回來啦，你選擇吧，要麼退位，要麼接受挑戰!」狡猾的刀疤並不想投降，他不斷以辛巴害死父親為借口責罵辛巴，好拖延時間。辛巴心中棄著內疚了憤，一不小心從岩石上滑了下去，以為辛巴必死無疑的刀疤告訴了他是自己殺了穆法沙的事實。憤怒之中，辛巴產生了無窮的力量，他奮力躍起，將刀疤一下打倒在地，並將這個卑鄙的叔叔趕下了國王崖，刀疤成了鬣狗們的一頓美餐。這時，大雨傾盆而下，好像在滋潤乾涸已久的土地。辛巴在母親和朋友們的歡呼與祝福聲中，正式宣布執掌政權。
