張一山（張一山飾）從小在印尼國長大，但卻對母語華文沒有絲毫的興趣，考試屢屢失敗，成為同學們的笑柄，有天張一山看到成龍（成龍飾）在北京潭柘寺拍戲，一向崇拜成龍的張一山想去北京見成龍，為了提高張一山的華文水平，奶奶決定，把他送去北京的姥姥（陶玉玲飾）、姥爺家學習華文。
張一山高興無比，他篤定的認為，到了中國便能找到他心中的英雄成龍，拜其為師，學得功夫，就不會再受同學們的欺負了，於是張一山暗自做出了一個讓他自己都興奮不已的決定——尋找成龍。
到了北京，張一山沒有回姥姥家報到，而是直接打車要去潭柘寺，也就是成龍拍戲的地方。但是，在計程車上，由於他華文水平差，給計程車司機念成了清石寺，結果被計程車司機（王學兵飾）送到清石觀。觀里的師太（元秋飾）好心將他收留了幾天。
當張一山再次出發時，他在車站被賊偷了錢包。出了車站，他遇到了冷艷的女賊王（顏丙燕飾）， 女賊王欲把張一山留下，結果女賊團伙的頭目回來了。那頭目看張一山有錢，便將其綁架了。
晚上到了交錢時間，老大帶著人在拉麵館吃夜宵時發現了警察，結果經過一番追趕成功逃脫了。在他們家裡，女賊王卻因為看到張一山想起了自己弟弟發了好心，偷偷將張一山放了。在逃亡報警的路上，張一山遇到了美麗善良的女警察（姜宏波飾）。女賊團伙老大回來後發現人質沒了，便與女賊打了起來。最終，老大被打暈，女賊帶著所有手下自首了。
在女警察的幫助與監督下，張一山終於回到了姥姥、姥爺的身邊。
回到北京的張一山得知成龍正在中影集團影視基地剪綵，毅然和姥姥、姥爺前往中影基地，卻遭到了門口保安的拒絕，而張一山因為與姥姥頂嘴而又氣的走了。
而不甘心就此作罷的張一山堅定地認為，只要進入中影基地便能見到成龍，於是他假扮群眾演員，成功地「混」入了成龍所在的劇組，一切的事情都那麼真實地像夢中發生的那樣上演了，可是關鍵時刻，張一山睜開了眼睛，破壞了導演（余男飾）的拍攝計劃，而他也只看到了那個「成龍的背影」。也因為如此，張一山被導演送出了劇組，無論他怎樣哀求，都無濟於事……
此時，張一山的姥姥卻化裝成演員混入了明星們的住處。沒多會，姥姥便遇到了成龍。成龍聽了張一山姥姥所講的所有經過，便答應見張一山一面。
張一山終於成為了成龍的徒弟，成龍也寄予他成為真正的龍的傳人。[2]
