春節過後，水仙花就凋謝了，通常人們都會把開過花的水仙球扔掉，這其實很可惜。水仙是一種多年生植物，它是靠鱗莖來繁殖的，如果將那些已開過花的鱗莖再埋到土裡，它就可以繼續生長繁殖。

選擇背風向陽、土層深厚的菜園地或苗圃地，深耕耙平後築成高壟，在壟上開溝，將已開過花的鱗莖埋入其中，葉片自然保留。

約一個月後，葉片枯萎休眠，此時掘起鱗莖，切掉須根，並沿基部剪去已枯黃的葉片，然後再將鱗莖埋入，深度以10厘米為宜，同時施入腐熟餅肥液或人糞尿，然後耙平。不能圖省事，往花盆裡一埋了事，因為鱗莖要在土壤里度過漫長的春、夏、秋三個季節，特別是夏、秋兩季，高溫炎熱，鱗莖埋入其中，上面又無葉片，如果忘記給它們澆水施肥，會造成乾旱死亡。

處理好鱗莖後，後面的工作就是日常的養護管理，平時只要注意給予園地充足的養分，同時保持園地濕潤但不積水，鱗莖就能自然生長。等到11、12月份的時候，再將鱗莖挖出，那時你會發現老鱗莖已腐爛變空，但它的周圍卻繁殖出許多大大小小的鱗莖。把那些個大芽多的鱗莖挑選出來，洗凈上面的泥土，剝除表層的褐色皮膜，再放在外面曬上幾個小時的太陽，然後用刀在球頂部劃一「十」字形切口，深度以不傷及鱗片內芽眼為度，以利芽、葉長出。放入清水中浸泡24小時，洗凈切口上流出的膠狀黏液，即可進行正常水養了。一般3天後，球底部可長出白色須根，球頂芽眼也漸漸萌出葉片。至於那些個小的鱗莖，因當年不會開花，就讓它們在土壤里再生長一年，待翌年發育壯實後，再挖出進行水養。
