對於現在的人來說，每個人一生之中總要經過大大小小的幾場面試。面試是給自己機會，扭轉生活方向的重要一步，因此，面試者與面試官既要坦誠相見，互相依賴，又要鬥智斗勇，展示自己最好的一面。於是，就有這么一部英國電影，告誡你面試是如此不簡單，如此於表面的平靜下暗含驚心動魄、人心善惡、世態炎涼。 [1]這部電影就是《終極面試》[2]，是一部懸疑推理氣氛極重的電影。從8名應聘者通過重重考驗，踏進最後的考場開始，就註定面試內容不會簡單。一家背景神秘的國際大企業招聘人材，8位晉身最後面試的精英，獲安排在一間沒有窗戶的密閉房間進行終極比拼。在一個沒有窗戶的房間，門口站一名面無表情的保安，房內有8張桌椅，桌上各有一份試卷及一支鉛筆，面前是一堵裝上單向鏡的牆壁，房間四處有閉路電視監控，唯一的房門由佩槍警衛把守。
首先面試官講述面試的要求：
"There's no law in this room but our
law,
and the only rules here are our rules.
there's one question before you,
and one answer is required.
If you try to communicate with myself,or
the guard,
you'll be disqualified.
If you spoil your paper,intentionally or
accidentally,
you'll be disqualified.
If you choose to leave this room for any
reason,
you'll be disqualified.

監考官講解面試規則後，隨即啟動倒數計時器，離開房間。8名求職者翻開試卷，發現竟是白紙一張！結束時間愈來愈近，要爭取獲聘，就要用盡一切方法。
面對如此奇怪的考試，苦思不得其解的面試者決定合作，共同找出答案。然而隨著時間的推移，困難的加劇，人性中的信任、正義與道德觀在利益面前紛紛落馬，盡管他們對這場面試的答案仍然不得其解，卻在這個20平方米左右的房間內玩起了爾虞我詐的背叛游戲。事態逐漸失控，有人置他人生死於不顧，有人以怨報德，有人被撕裂了一直牢牢偽裝著的堅強外表，導致精神走向崩潰。這場面試之殘酷本質經緯畢露，它似毒蛇般纏住了這群原本自信滿滿的應聘者。
第一個淘汰的人是唯一的亞裔，廣東話，大概是按照香港同胞形象設計，她秉承了中華民族勤奮好學刻苦認真的優良傳統，打算在白紙上寫下一整篇庄嚴肅穆的自薦書。寫下第一行字後便被驅逐，此時大概是77分鍾。後來，應聘者由此推出，要求中所謂的塗畫考卷不一定是畫花，而是根本不能有任何書寫痕跡。
之後影片主角之一，姑且稱作White，在整場面試中都起著推動者和組織者的角色，如果真的是群面，大概真的會脫穎而出。他說出一個重點，即關鍵不是HR說了什麼，而是他沒說什麼；亦即所有未被禁止的行為都是被允許的。由此，剩下的七個人可以站立走動說話甚至破壞房間中一切，當然，也可以互相殘殺。
然後，主角們做出了第一個推測，紙上的字也許不是肉眼可見而是光顯的，所以他們試了很多種方法，包括正常的燈，應急燈等。之後第二個推測，是否是鉛筆畫陰影之類的顯示，再次推翻。第三個推測，水顯，推翻。第四個推測，紙張照相顯影，假設防火噴頭中噴出的是顯影液，而應急燈光則是暗室環境，最吸引人的推測，可惜結果還是失敗。
這時，Brunette被White坑害，燒掉了自己的考卷，失去資格，此時為四十分鍾，還剩六人。之後，White又誘導Deaf撕掉自己的考卷，失去資格，此時為三十四分鍾左右，Deaf大概是與愛情片《亞當》中男主角相似的亞斯伯格自閉症患者，或者說是比《The Big Bang Theory》中Sheldon更嚴重的多的天才型交流障礙。Black崇尚合作對White的行為忍無可忍，一拳擊昏，綁了起來。29分鍾時White破傷風發作，昏迷進而抽搐，急需服葯治療。
曾當過兵的Brown猜測一切是場游戲，而剩下人中有HR安插的內部間諜，遂拷問學心理的Dark，居然發現Dark是該招人企業旗下的在職員工。正當Dark答應說出真相時，White病情加重，為救White，Dark與攝像頭交流，被逐出房間，取消資格。Blonde終於找出葯，救了White。
之後，White終於說出了自己對問題和答案的理解——問題就是他們八個人，而答案就是只有一個人能留下，按照White的想法他們必須用盡手段，直到只剩下一人。這一想法把在場應聘者都雷倒了，但是他們馬上陷入一場關於保安配槍的爭奪戰，White最終勝利。在槍的逼迫下Brown主動退出，Blonde在退出時耍了個小手段，結果卻反倒使Black中槍，二人皆以為Black身亡，此時計時器到點，而屋中還剩二人，White渴望與幕後人交談卻被逐出，原來在三十五分鍾時，Deaf曾對計時器做了手腳，把時間播快。於是，只剩下Blonde一人。
自然，在愈來愈接近謎底的辰光總要出現一位「救世主」，聰慧、機敏、無私，富有同情心，好以此在關鍵時刻救贖所有人的靈魂。最後，Blonde靈光閃現（不得不說這個結果安排的巧合性太強），用Deaf遺留下的眼鏡和燈罩的玻璃碎片自製放大鏡，在考卷上找到如下字樣 "question 1"，再回憶起開始的考試要求，提的問題只有一個，那便是前面引用的考試要求的最後一句話，"Any questions?"所以這場面試的唯一答案便是"No."（即沒有問題，因為quesion後面是空白）而最後我們也終於發現，Deaf便是整個公司的幕後老大，所選的人便是Deaf的助手。
結局，Black並沒有死，子彈中含有該葯物公司最新研製出的神奇膠囊，rapid cell regeneration，即給人超強殺毒自愈能力的葯，讓Black獲得了新生。而Blonde欣然接受了這一份工作。
盡管這種模式的影片在盛行推理風潮的日本並不鮮見，但英國人以它獨特的凝重、冷冽闡述了一場有趣味又非常引人入勝的殘酷面試。盡管設計這場面試的幕後老闆是基於一個美好的初衷，然而折射出的醜陋面與光輝點卻不相上下。可見，《終極面試》在警醒眾人，具備良知是很重要的，但光有良知是遠遠不夠的，在如此險惡的生存環境中，必須還得有競爭實力，施展才能，方能邁向成功。否則，不是淪為任人宰割的羔羊，就是變成不擇手段的惡人，這兩樣均不可取.
