回頭看這部《功夫熊貓》，從製作的角度講毫無創舉可言，依然是爛大街的「擬人化的動物(怪物)」，相比《超人總動員》探討中年危機和自我認同危機、《賽車總動員》聚焦汽車文化和現代文明對傳統的影響、《料理鼠王》用廚藝行業來針砭好萊塢電影界的時弊(餐廳＝大製片廠，快餐＝商業片，大師不會做飯的孩子＝受惠於「好萊塢世襲制」的新生代，小老鼠＝獨立電影人，美食家＝影評人)，並無特異之處。但其聰明之處不在「熊貓」，在乎「功夫」。
「功夫」這個定語，貌似決定了角色設定、動作設計、洋溢著東方風情的背景甚至是配樂(酷似光榮公司的《三國志》)，實則上述三者沒一樣跟「寫實」沾邊——「功夫」主題與其說代表中國文化，不如說是全方位回爐「香港功夫片」繁榮期的世界觀、動作、故事格局——把老一輩男性觀眾曾經喜愛的「餡兒」，包上新生代青少年觀眾和女性觀眾均可無差別受用的「糖衣」，才是《功夫熊貓》最成功的算計、最狡猾的商業運作。
一旦洞悉到上述《熊貓》的實用主義本色，在欽佩夢工廠炒冷飯手腕的高超之餘，小動物們也愈發可愛起來。彷彿是「香港功夫片的主題公園」：成龍傾情Cos美猴王、劉玉玲打扮成小丫環一樣的美女蛇、表面上是安吉麗娜·茱莉／伊安·邁克肖恩配音而骨子裡頗具李連傑氣質的虎／豹、由傑克·布萊克代言搞怪其實分明脫胎於洪金寶的熊貓，外加「猶達大師范兒」和「龜仙人范兒」的兩位大長老，……多麼有利於吸引票房啊！！！
盡管《功夫熊貓》也試圖讓自己從「依靠包裝取勝」的膚淺水平努力往「觸及東方文明內涵」的方向上挖掘，但除去最終爆料的「無招勝有招」的太極思想靈光一瞥外，罕見其他成果。更多的看點則是夢工廠最拿手的戲仿噱頭：監獄里橫七豎八的樓梯可謂借鑒於《哈利·波特》、越獄戲在落石中騰挪系《蜘蛛俠》的翻版、長橋決斗來自《指環王》、灰塵中無數難民大逃亡克隆自《世界大戰》，再加上無數模稜兩可的《花木蘭》、《卧虎藏龍》、《星球大戰》橋段等等。即便是讓不知情者感動不已的「惡搞自家片頭」這招，亦不過去年底在皮克斯的《星際總動員》(WALL-E)的先行預告片里領教過的老套路。
——這就是《熊貓》為什麼屬於B級片的原因，本質乃一次對B級片的出色再包裝，雖然也添加了A等佐料，但並沒升華到更高的台階。……可是這又怎麼樣呢！？「形式大於內容」的夢工廠動畫，能可愛到這個份上已經足夠！何況這是一部以搞笑和盈利為終極目的的動畫片，在勝利完成既定目標的情況下，本應獲得寬容對待。
從鵝爸爸講述家族史到鴨子抬轎(換成小豬之後，鴨子們不僅沒閃開、反倒像掛爐烤鴨一樣倒掉在竹竿上……)，從烏龜大師「沒有偶然」的爆笑禪機到熊貓對浣熊的「超級模仿秀」，縱然「最終一指定乾坤被虛化處理，明顯是為製作續集預留空間」的行徑令人齒寒，但現在《功夫熊貓》發展成系列，儼然符合廣大影迷的根本利益。
於是，為這樣一部好玩的卡通寫評論本身變得毫無必要性；同理，面對這樣一部娛樂片叫囂愛國主義乃至抵制好萊塢的自炒行為，不僅不著邊際、毫無價值，而且惡毒得別有用心。我無法否認自己看得很開心；也無法否認如此有趣的商業片對於世界電影市場的意義；更不能否認帶著「皮克斯＞夢工廠」的有色眼鏡，終究使我對本片沒有愛。
