In 1995, Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) is a time-obsessed systems analyst, who travels worldwide resolving proctivity problems at FedEx depots. He is in a long-term relationship with Kelly Frears (Helen Hunt), with whom he lives in Memphis, Tennessee. Although the couple wants to get married, Chuck's busy schele interferes with their relationship. A Christmas with relatives is interrupted by Chuck being summoned to resolve a problem in Malaysia.

Flying through a violent storm, his airplane crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Chuck is able to escape the sinking plane and is saved by an inflatable life-raft but in the process, loses the raft's emergency locator transmitter. He clings to the life-raft, loses consciousness, and floats all night before being washed up on an island.

After he awakens, he explores the island and soon discovers that it is uninhabited. Several FedEx packages from the crashed plane wash up on the shore, as well as the corpse of one of the pilots (whom he buries). He initially tries to signal for rescue and makes an escape attempt with the remnants of his life-raft, but he cannot pass the powerful surf. He searches for food, water, shelter, and opens the packages, finding a number of potentially useful items. He leaves one package, with a pair of wings painted on it, unopened.

During a first attempt to make fire, Chuck receives a deep wound to his hand. In anger he throws several objects, including a Wilson Sporting Goods volleyball from one of the packages. A short time later he draws a face in the bloody hand print on the ball, names it Wilson and begins talking to it.

Four years later Chuck is dramatically thinner, bearded, his hair is longer, and he is wearing a loincloth. He has become adept at spearing fish and making fires. He also has regular conversations and arguments with Wilson.

After a large section from a portable toilet washes up on the island, Chuck uses it as a sail in the construction of a raft. After spending some time building and stocking the raft and deciding when the weather conditions will be optimal (using an analemma he has created in his cave to monitor the time of year), he launches, using the sail to overcome the powerful surf. After some time on the ocean, a storm nearly tears his raft apart. The following day, "Wilson" falls from the raft and is lost, leaving Chuck overwhelmed by grief and loss. Later, he is found drifting by a passing cargo ship.

Upon returning to civilization, Chuck learns that he has long been given up for dead; his family and friends held a funeral, and Kelly has since married a colleague of Chuck's dentist (Dr. Spaulding) and has a daughter. After reuniting with Kelly, the pair profess their love for each other but, realizing a future together would be impossible e to her commitment to her family, they part. Kelly gives Chuck the keys to the car they once shared.

Chuck then travels out into the country to return the unopened FedEx package to its sender. The house at the address is empty, so he leaves the package at the door with a note saying that the package saved his life. He then departs and stops at a remote crossroads. A woman passing by in a pickup truck stops to explain where each road leads. As she drives away, Chuck notices the illustration on her truck is similar to the one on the parcel. Chuck is left looking down each road. The camera focuses on his face, as he looks toward the departing woman in the truck.

我覺得這部電影，往淺了說，就是說男主人公在不幸飛機失事之後，又足夠幸運，能夠飄到一個海島上，憑借著自己對於人生的希望、對孤獨的適應、對恐懼的克服，最終自己勇敢的活了下來，回到了人類聚居的世界。
往深了說，就是大自然雖然變化無常，人生總是有很多的起起落落，但是男主人公沒有放棄，而是在經歷了內心掙扎之後，奮力求生。一個人生活在那個小島上，貌似看不到希望，但是最終堅持了下來，並撐到了回到親人身邊的那一刻。雖然此時曾經的愛人已嫁為人婦，也有了孩子。但內心也估計也有很多觸動吧，就像唐太斯出獄看見美茜蒂絲嫁為人婦一樣，只不過沒有仇恨吧應該。表達人生的無常。
整部電影立意很高啊，個人也特別喜歡。
最後，湯姆漢克斯的演技真的很厲害，最喜歡的男演員。

這電影名字可能會誤導人，字面上好像是一個魯濱遜一樣的故事，其實這部電影講的重點並不是求生，而是失去。

倒不如把這部電影叫做《荒島·餘生》，前面是背景交代，中間是荒島，而後面是餘生。查克是一個十足的工作狂，也是一個成功人士。他在生活中如魚得水，不但能把工作做得出色，還有一個美麗的未婚妻凱莉。

但是飛機失事，讓他獨自流落荒島，他把未婚妻當作精神支柱拚命活下去，四年荒島生活之後，他決定放手一搏，又一次經歷了危險之後終於獲救。

總結起來，這部電影的精髓在於面對種種失去時人可以做出的反應。

當然，電影是故事，不同的人有不同的理解，如果你理解的是絕境中的信念和求生的慾望，那也是值得尊重的，畢竟電影本身說的是什麼不重要，重要的是你相信什麼。

最後，不得不提的是，在大部分時間，只有湯姆漢克斯一個人出現在鏡頭里，酣暢淋漓的展現了他的演技，絕對是一場盛宴。

Well-known British had raised the base of people - Defoe in Robinson Crusoe as a masterpiece, once again touched the hearts of every reader. Today I learn from the election of the novel's Day - Castaway, the spirit of Robinson, a long time in my mind around, so I always thought, If I were Robinson. . . . . .
If I were Robinson, and when I caught a desert island, the future bleak, how to survive it? I would like him, attitude adjustment, bravely face the harsh realistic? No, I will never. I have to admit that he is a Leiruo girl, I do not have the quality of Robinson self-reliance as a hunter and courage.
If I were Robinson, I certainly would not be living on a desert island with a full 28 years. Even if it is a day I can not afford! Had silently waiting for death to come. I grew up there would be no habit of self-Robinson. I like hothouse flowers, shelter and care to their parents to grow up. Everything rely on others.

I went begrudgingly to see this film with my daughter. It was not on my list of films to see but she insisted. Knowing that it was a Disney proct only made me dread it more. The schlock they try to pass off as good films these days is ridiculous. The only up-side I could see was the director, Frank Marshall. He has proced some of my favorite films. Let's see what he can do behind the camera.

Pleasantly surprised I think is a good term for my reaction. Although the film was about 20 minutes too long, it did sustain the action and drama all the way through. I knew the basics of the story: a team at a base in Antartica must evacuate and cannot take the sled dogs with them. Winter sets in and the dogs are forced to survive on their own in the brutal cold for months.

The dogs are very entertaining and their scenes with the science team are warm and amusing, even thrilling. Where I expected the film to fail was after the humans and dogs separate. Amazingly though, this is where the Mr. Marshall seemed to kick it into gear. Watching the opposing scenes unfold of the guilt-ridden Paul Walker frantically trying to find anyone to help him get back down to the Antartic, interlaced with the Huskies who are struggling through the rough winter, scrounging for food and defending each other from predators, was very emotional.

While the film is a grade A survival pic, I hadn't expected it to be such a tear-jerker. Be forewarned. Although the human performances (Paul Walker, Bruce Greenwood and the necessary romantic lead, Moon Bloodgood) were mediocre at best, the canine actors really do steal your heart.

when people comment on this movie here, people all failed to mention another historic event which just happpend before the release of that movie in 1950s. Princess Anne of the British Royal family fell in love with a common man(who unfortunately was divorced--one needs to understand that in 1950s, divorces was like a dirty record in your credit history, which will damage your public image and credibility). It was also not acceptable at that to see a marriage between a common man and a lady with blue blood. IN constrast to King Edward who gave up royal position for her beloved one, she finally gave up this relationship under the tremendous pressure.
The cruel thing was that all news media published her give-in in headlines and it flashed on the street too. It was a sensational event in Uk and US.
Roman holiday almost replicated that story with unbelievably similar details. That's why it was so popular and so touching for many people in Europe and US.
this movie launched Audrey, an unknown and obscure swiss lady into stardom over night. She got Oscar that year and started her legend.
