Our main pups include brave Lucky, who gets a strong personality mirroring his character in the book, lovable Rolly, the gourmand of the pups, and sweet little Cadpig, who is the true runt of the litter. Also there is Spot the chicken, who longs to be a dog. I find them all extremely amiable and enjoyable to watch. They are usually foiling Cruella's schemes for their land, or outwitting Lt. Pug (I'll get to him later), or sneaking into Grutely, or...just having fun, making a very likable show.

This film was absolutely amazing. I have spent hours re-watching various scenes and noticing all the perfection with which they are acted and directed. It's not the violence or action sequences that make this movie so great (although they are well done...), but rather moments like where Mathilda knocks on Leon's door. It would be so easy to just film the door opening, but instead we see light illuminating Natalie Portman's face, symbolizing something angelic. And the moment has so much more meaning.
I know a lot of people who have seen this film because they are action fans. I'm not. But I'm glad I finally found it, because it's a wonderful film in so many other ways.

When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed.

一、人类历史上最伟大的帝国
如果帝国在现代汉语里是一个略带贬抑的名词的话，那么把它用在美国的头上，我觉得有必要加以一定的修饰，那就是：人类历史上最伟大的帝国。可惜的是，在央视的《大国崛起》系列片里，由于当局意识形态的局限性，美国篇和苏联篇一样都令人失望。用西人的谚语说就是：BEAT AROUND THE BUSH，不得要领。
《大国崛起 美国篇》中有两个重点：其一，独立战争、南北战争。其二，危局新政。
现在当朝者在讨论到中国的台湾问题时，常会援引美国南北战争为例来阐述统一的正当性，所以央视的编导们当然也要不遗余力地浓墨重彩描绘一下该事件。不过，人们常常忘了美国南北战争双方的特征是以工业资产阶级民主派为代表的北方与农奴制庄园主为代表的南方之间的斗争。双方各自代表的阶层在历史大潮中此消彼长的特点才是最后成败的关键。回想当年美国脱离英国的独立战争，美国独立成功，而时隔百年在美国内部的南部独立战争却失败了。所以，并不是所有的统一战争或者独立战争都可以以民族统一国家统一的大帽子来代表战争的正义性与否，关键的问题还是双方政权各自代表的阶层和行政经济运作方式是否符合社会发展的要求。我们中国人都期盼中国统一大业的早日完成，然而统一的蓝图是如何描绘的呢？美国的独立战争和南北战争给了我们明确的启示。强大如英国者，不能阻挡美国的独立。强大如南方军者，也不能阻挡美国北方军的统一。独立与统一，谁是谁非？历史老人告诉我们：只有民主的，进步的，代表新经济发展方向的体制才有资格统一或者独立。独立或统一，是人民的选择，是历史的选择，而绝不是某些肉食者或民粹主义或民族主义式的呐喊所能决定的。大陆若不自强，最终将无法阻止台湾的独立。
讲到危局新政，那是指1929年发生的资本主义经济危机以及其后的罗斯福新政。央视的编导们口沫横飞地描述了当年美国人的悲惨生活：煤矿经常发生爆炸事故，工人超时加班现象严重，政府职能部门腐败贪污，自然环境为工业污染所破坏，食品搀假影响人民健康，社会贫富两极分化.......当那个被采访的美国问题研究专家讲到这些问题的时候，我发现了她脸上一丝不易察觉的笑容：是的，她羞愧了。在她讲这些问题的时候，我觉得她应该和我同样想到了：这些，80年前发生在美国的这些，不正是现在正在中国大地上发生着的事情么？只是，不能说，也说不得。那位教授只好在面对采访的时候，尴尬地露出一点羞愧的笑，然后继续向老美开炮。有趣的是，编导们的画外音出现了：苏联的计划经济一片繁荣，所以美国人也要学习苏联老大哥。弦外之音是：老祖宗之法，也曾经辉煌过！可惜，错了，又错了。美国总统罗斯福实行的新政以凯恩斯的理论为基础绝对不是苏联计划经济的那一套，美国的政府经济干预是在自由市场经济的基础上进行的，是遵循市场经济规律而绝非如计划经济那样凌驾于市场之上的模式。应该说，美国乃至整个西方社会出现的经济危机不过是当年全球经济科技高速发展之余，产能过剩导致的一次自我调整。防佛一个小儿在青春期迅速成长的阶段，如果运动过度而又营养补充跟不上的话，容易缺钙抽筋。罗斯福总统不过是在适当的时候给了社会一剂强心针和一点钙片。罗斯福总统的名言是“我们最大的恐惧是内心的恐惧本身”。我的理解是，体制本身的问题不大，是人的内心恐慌情绪导致了股市的大抛盘进而影响了整个经济形式。当然，罗斯福总统的“钙片”：加大政府公共建设财政投资以拉动经济的做法也确实起了巨大的作用。至于苏联则不然，它对资本主义经济危机的抵御能力在前文我曾表述过我的看法，就不再这里继续赘述了。
还有一个有趣的话题是关于“垄断”。美国篇里长时间讨论美国洛克非勒石油公司等托拉斯垄断问题，阐述的是资本主义自由竞争后期发展出来的垄断企业所带来的社会矛盾。其中，采访了钱颖一教授，他的观点一针见血：垄断的问题并不在于垄断的财富积累本身，而在于它影响了人们自由竞争的平等机会之权利。“自由竞争”“平等权利”这些字眼，有意无意地出现了！所谓的苏联式的国有大企业，大银行，大电信，大邮政，大交通系统，难道不正是一种国家式的大托拉斯么？这样的社会组织形式又给普通的消费者经营者们带来了什么？如果说，美国托拉斯影响的是平等竞争的机会，那么苏联式国有大企业影响的就不只是平等竞争的机会，而却是对私有财产的野蛮掠夺和消费者权益的漠视乃至服务质量和工作效率的下降。如果说罗斯福新政对于垄断托拉斯大企业开刀是美国式资本主义经济脓疮爆发的一次自我疗伤，那么所谓优秀的“苏联式社会主义经济”走上的国家垄断的道路又是怎样的一个奇怪的南辕北辙！人所不欲，则施于己？实在是有趣之极。

农夫之子成为总统，自强不息并解放黑奴统一国家的ABOLAHAM LINCOLN，他属于美国！
两次把人类从濒临灭亡的世界大战中解救出来，并在战后帮助无数国家建设民主经济的那个国家，就是美国！
在列强中把中国的庚子赔款退还中国兴办学校与医院的，肩并肩协助中国打败日本的主要国家，那还是美国！
就连我们现在日日上网拍砖所依赖的电脑，互联网等，又有哪些不是来自美国？在这样一片开放的，聚合全球各肤色人才的热土上，还有什么样的奇迹不能发生？美国，依然吸引着全球的目光，并代表着人类发展的最先驱。或许，人类永远没有最完美的制度，但在过去100年里，美国，是当之无愧的全世界最伟大的帝国。

先坦白，上课的时候我一直都没有怎么听讲。但看《大国崛起》影片的时候，我敢说我无疑是最认真的。从前到后一集补落，虽然我没有做笔记的习惯，但我依然清楚得记得其中得许多细节，可能会记住一辈子。
作为一个自认为有梦想、有抱负的男生，不会对《大国崛起》这样的影片没有兴趣，甚至是无动于衷。看了《大国崛起》，从小处来说，它补充了我许多中外历史地理人文知识；从大处讲，它给了我心灵许多震撼，提升了我的人生观，价值观，让我对社会的过去现在和未来有的更加清楚的认识。
国家为什么而强大，就像人为什么而发财一样。为什么有的人能够发财呢？从古至今，多少豪杰，苦思冥想，想白了头发。这也是现代人最想知道的，我们来学习似乎也就是为了这个。
还是马尅思老先生一语道破天机——“剥削”。此语一出，石破天惊，从葡萄牙至美利坚，从秦汉至明清，从埃及法老王到民国蒋委员长，他们的不可一世似乎一下子变得苍白无力了。只可怜马先生成了众矢之的过街老鼠了。
从古至今，世界上强国林立。埃及奴隷罗马希腊我暸解不多，暂且不谈，商汤周武，现在的人暸解得更不多，不说也罢。就来说说我们伟大秦朝吧，秦国的疆土用现在的眼光来看不是很大，只有我们现在面积的一半，西边到陜西，东边到辽东半岛，还沾了点今天朝鲜的地盘，北边“乃使蒙恬北筑长城而守蕃篱”（今宁夏内蒙古有长城的地方），南边“南取百越之地，以为桂林象郡”（今广西云南）。这样看来就不包括今天的西藏，青海，新疆，内外蒙古，东北三省，台湾岛，海南岛。虽然不包括这些地方，不过不得不承认它是当时世界上的第一强国。为什么呢？我们先来看看孕育大秦帝国的春秋战国时代吧。春秋五霸，战国七雄，还有机百号罗罗小国前前后后打了四五百年的时间。打战谁输谁赢受苦的永远是咱老百姓，军费粮草呀都是咱老百姓出，抛头颅洒热血当然也是咱老百姓的事，不管是赵括还是孙武，宋襄还是齐桓，他们住的都是深宅大院，吃的都是山珍海味，穿的都是绫罗绸缎，百姓们即使没有立锥之地，只要你借块地让他种，你就是他们的父母青天，这些王侯将相都只是拿百姓的生命当赌资，切磋赌技的赌徒而已。好一场豪赌!而赢政只不过是他们中间最后的赢家罢暸。统一了，解放了，人民的负担却更加重了，修宫殿，筑长城，游会稽，求仙药，皇帝的欲望不是一般人可以想象的。这才打造了始皇帝的铁桶江山，世界第一强国。
后来的人发现一个问题，这么些臣民们怎么管呀，诸子百家，各显神通了，结果名、墨两家中道而绝，儒、道两家便成了中国文化隂阳互补的主流思想（法家只是儒家的同宗别派），中国的文化就是要让我们都当顺民，良民。不听话，不乖乖让我剥削的就是刁民，不管是士大夫还是平头百姓都是不能容忍刁民的。除非你刁得像刘备像朱元璋。
中国后来也越来越强大了，西汉时候先拿西域开刀，大宛的汗血宝马，楼兰的美女都给大爷送过来，唐朝的时候又看上人家突厥的牛羊，吐蕃的白玉，大清朝的时候更是带来了东北的人参貂皮东珠鹿茸。汉武帝好大喜功，晋朝全国上下都膜拜孔方兄，隋炀帝更是凿运河，建洛阳，唐朝出了个喜欢吃荔枝得贵妃，明成祖刚上台就营建故宫。一个人能在一夜直接剥削了几代人的财富，真是件暸不起的事情。
再后来我们发展到极致了，因为我们没有更多的人让他们剥削了，北边是蒙古大漠，西边是葱岭昆仑山罗布泊，南边喜马拉雅山横断山脉，东边是食之无味的倭夷扶桑。剥削谁呢，郑三保下西洋兜了半圈，外国人有的咱大明朝有了，外国人没有的咱大明朝也有了，夫复何求，关起门来好好过两天小日子吧。也许因为地盘足够大了，也许是小日子过得太惬意了，除了像南宋这样得朝廷被逼到临安，中国得都城总是远离大海。这就给了葡萄牙人机会了。
于是，葡萄牙人走出来了，背靠强大可怕的西班牙，面向蔚蓝无垠的大海。真可谓是前有堵截，后有追兵。勇敢浪漫的葡萄牙人只有出海了。上帝跟他们开了个玩笑，送给他们一个比大海还大的礼物，他们找到了能够让他们疯狂剥削的广大的顾客群——非洲大陆，接着欧洲的红眼豺狼们纷纷出发了，一个被称做印度的不幸的古国，一个名为美洲的新世界，还好东方神秘古国的大门还算半个结实。剥削掠夺得越多就越强大，非洲的奴隷，美洲的印第安，这些都是活动着的黄金呀；埃及的僵尸，印度象牙佛像都是无价之宝；还有澳大利亚的广袤的牧场。这才是一个真正的世界霸主的样子呀。
成吉思汗说：“镇压叛乱者、战胜敌人，将他们连根铲除，夺取他们所有的一切；使他们的已婚妇女号哭、流泪，骑乘着他们后背平滑的骏马，将他们的美貌的后妃的腹部当作睡衣和垫子，注视着她们的玫瑰色的面颊并亲吻着，吮她们的乳头色的甜密的嘴唇，这才是男子汉最大的乐趣。”
蛇有蛇路，鼠有鼠道，还是你方唱罢我登场，500年来，9个世界性强过相机以自己的方式登场亮相在霸主的宝座上过过瘾。
霸主也不是好当的，经常分赃不均了就容易出事情，世界大战便爆发了。欧洲的世界大战无非跟中国的春秋战国一样。不同的是没打几天就熄火了，大家都意识到这样打下去谁都没有好结果。地毬就这么大，怎么分呀？月毬计划现在还不现实。当大家意识到从10个人身上剥削1块钱跟从1个人身上剥削10块钱得效果是一样的时候，牛顿，爱迪生便成了人们心中的偶像，跟亚历山大，屋大维平起平坐了。这时候科学技术便也成了第一生产力了。
今天中国的所谓社会主义，跟西方的所谓资本主义到底有何区别，不是每个人都是马尅思，也不是每个人都学过马尅思，更不是每个人都懂马尅思。中国老百姓是善于忍耐的，任你东洋枪西洋炮，炮轰八达岭，火烧圆明园，只要能混口吃的，怀揣著桃花源的美梦，我才管你撑死美国人饿死非洲人呢。如今的中国人都是当年满清入关先剃头发民国又剪辫子的孬种的后代了，这年头顶多冒一两小愤青扯一两嗓子，真正敢出来做点开天辟地的大事情的人早被满门抄斩了。炎帝陵，仓颉墓，会稽山大禹像，霸王虞姬庙，白马寺十八罗汉，医圣张仲景祠堂，四大孔庙，南阳诸葛草庐，汉中定军山石碑，书圣王羲之陵墓，文成公主像，合肥包公祠，岳飞庙，成吉思汗陵，南包公海瑞坟墓，张之洞故居……太多太多了，近代的我就不好说了，这些哪个不是被你们愤青砸得个底朝天。现在还动不动开口闭口就中国人不中国人的，中国人有你们这样的么，秦始皇焚书阬儒，明清文字狱加起来也没你们牛吧。忍无可忍。平时为了几个奖学金都能勾心斗角尔虞我诈，你以为等到地震的时候站出来捐个几百几千块人民币你就堂而皇之一合格的社会主义大学生了？建议你们无聊的时候还是去看看《大国崛起》吧。

开伤疤有许多种方法，哭诉的、淡漠的、唠叨的，官方的、民间的、第三国的，等等等等。陆川这一部，可以说是来自民间的声音，在《南京，南京》中有着多个声音在叙述。抵抗组织的、国际友人、普通民众以及日本军人，但并不嘈杂，但是残酷、直接，写实到让人目不忍睹的地步。铭记南京大屠杀，不止是一个冰冷的数字，每个人都曾经是鲜活的生命。
《南京！南京！》相比很多同背景的电影有着很明显的进步，那就是呈现出中国人的抵抗状态，南京沦陷之后，中国人并非不抵抗，无论是武装的战士还是手无寸铁的平民，或者用子弹来说话，或者同仇敌忾，即便是妓女想保持美貌和发型、贵妇们打麻将，分别也是对生活的热爱和坚持，那不是商女不知亡国恨而是苦中作乐更可哀，作为现代人要同情和理解他们的处境。
刘烨演出的地下抵抗成员们，在被俘之后，被日本人集体、批量、有秩序的屠杀，电影的前半段在观众的预料之中，但是陆川将断壁残垣之间的战争场面提高到中国电影前所未有的高度。电影细致表现了各种屠杀的方式，一批批的枪毙、关在仓库里并火烧、驱赶到深坑里被活埋，每一种死法都是极其反人道的。而高圆圆扮演的姜老师，担任国家安全区的委员，则说明了中国人的不屈服。

电影完全没有回避强奸女人、无目的的杀害路人和慰安妇问题，陆川很好的处理了不同角度看待同一事件的难题。“中国不能亡”的呼喊穿过七十年的时空，于今是“中国不能忘”。攻下南京，杀戮南京，震慑中国人，则是日本人的构想，在今天则是“承认、道歉和反思”。在日本人尤其是右翼和政府很没有认可并全面反思的今天，我们中国人是没有资格来原谅日本人的。文明的冲突，是根深蒂固的基因，遗传在深层次的血脉之中。所以，绝对不应该以“日本人/军人也是战争的受害者”来做泥菩萨状，当狮子吼之时就喊出来吧。
《南京！南京！》和《拉贝日记》可以相互参照，彼此提供了他者的目光，无论如何角川的例子是非常罕见的，即使是历史上真实存在，也不能代替其他百万以上的侵略军，更何况他本人在电影中也是优秀的战士。他越优秀，杀害中国人就越多。与之形成鲜明对比的是小津安二郎，这位日本最著名的导演之一在战争期间是战绩卓越的毒气战专家，他从未进行反思，在他的日记中保留大量的战争细节。

The take on the story is a little different but not so different as to disappoint diehard Cinderella fans. Since Karl had already bribed a sailor, he lied to Rose that he would ensure that Jack will also get on the boat. Nevertheless, when Karl himself was rejected to get on the accident boat, he again used an intrigue that he picked up an outcast child and pretended to be the father of the child, and managed to get on the accident boat. Another negative social mood of that time exposed by the film is vanity. The presence of love was impenetrated through the whole film. The love is not only expressed between Jack and Rose, but also exists among the families. When the water was poured into the ship, when men are forced to be obstructed from their wives and children, an old couple held each other tightly in the bed; a father comforted his daughter he will just leave her for a while, just a little while… When Titanic was sinking, some musicians were performing pieces of music, some disciples were praying to Virgin Mary around the priest on their knees…
In conclusion, the film of “Titanic” is not simply an affectional story between Jack and Rose. It shows more than love. The wreck of Titanic represents the collapse of the Capitalism, which is considered “unsinkable” by most people. The film also shows different aspects of human nature. Some people own strong vainglory, while some other possess much of love; still others are rich in firm faith and beliefs. We should always keep in mind that, no matter how enormous the calamity is, no matter how defective the people are, we should believe there are always more virtue than vice in the world…

This film was absolutely amazing. I have spent hours re-watching various scenes and noticing all the perfection with which they are acted and directed. It's not the violence or action sequences that make this movie so great (although they are well done...), but rather moments like where Mathilda knocks on Leon's door. It would be so easy to just film the door opening, but instead we see light illuminating Natalie Portman's face, symbolizing something angelic. And the moment has so much more meaning.
I know a lot of people who have seen this film because they are action fans. I'm not. But I'm glad I finally found it, because it's a wonderful film in so many other ways.

Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture. Xu datong is a video games designer in St. Louis. When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed.

It's about assimilation into American culture, and not assimilation in an ”International” city, like SF or NY or LA or Chicago, but St. Louis, MO (actually shot there). Really great acting, interesting story.
