Chloe
最后祝贺一下allison(chloe的扮演者)获得土星奖的提名
他对那个垂著头的孩子说:if you quit now, you quit every day for the rest of your life、
Your dignity is inside you, nobody takes it away if you don't give them。

Driving Miss Daisy
Adapting plays to the movies is always an iffy prospect. If the story is "opened up" too much, with extra characters and locations, it can lose its intimacy. If the story remains too close to its stagebound roots it can become cinematically ll.
But every now and then a stage adaptation comes along that manages to be faithful to the play's best interests and yet open it up just enough to make for a cinematic treat, and such is "Driving Miss Daisy."
Led by riveting performances from Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy, this Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy-drama is utterly enthralling, though also quite spare and intimate.
Director Bruce Beresford, an Australian who seemed right at home in America's South with "Tender Mercies" and "Crimes of the Heart," has returned triumphantly to that area in creating this wonderfully delicate masterpiece, largely through the fine performances of his stars.
Tandy is the title character, a wealthy 72-year-old Southern matron, a Jewish woman in the Christian Bible Belt of 1948 as the film begins. After an accident with her car, she is nagged into allowing a driver to be hired by her protective son Boolie (Dan Aykroyd, who is also convincing and never resorts to any of the shtick you might expect).
Boolie hires Hoke (Freeman), a black 60-ish widower and chauffeur whose patience seemingly knows no limits. At first Miss Daisy wants nothing to do with Hoke. She is a stern, stiffnecked woman with pride as big as all outdoors, and she's humiliated by her inability to drive herself. Not one to give up easily, however, Hoke, after sitting around the house with nothing to do for his first week of employment, follows her in the car as she walks to the store one day. Embarrassed, she reluctantly climbs into the back seat.
Thus begins a tenuous relationship that will span the next 25 years in the changing South. And they will change with it.
But this isn't a movie about people who make some remarkable lifestyle switch in the last five minutes. Rather, Alfred Uhry's touching and very funny screenplay, based on his own play, shows the graal change that creeps inside these characters.
Miss Daisy, though she considers herself a liberal Southerner, exclaiming repeatedly, "I am not prejudiced," hangs on to longtime traditions. When she thinks Hoke has taken something from her she says, "These people are always stealing things." And when she has an extra ticket to a dinner honoring Martin Luther King, she doesn't even consider that Hoke might like to attend. During the latter scene she comments that she's glad to see things change. But Hoke mutters, "Things haven't changed all that much."
Needless to say, Morgan Freeman, who continues to grow as one of the American movies' finest actors, and Jessica Tandy, who is certainly one of our national treasures, will be remembered come Oscar nomination time. And Aykroyd will surprise you as a character who ages 25 years in a very natural and realistic manner.
"Driving Miss Daisy," which is rated PG for a single profanity uttered by Aykroyd, is an extremely moving film with some hilarious moments. And though the screenplay obviously offers the humor, it is the actors' inflections and twists on words that give the comedy its real impact.
Beresford has also managed an incredibly authentic look to his period piece. It's fascinating, for example, to notice in the background ring a scene on an old country road that old-style cars are driving by while Hoke and Miss Daisy exchange casual dialogue in the foreground. It would have been much easier to keep all traffic out of the shot, but Beresford goes the extra mile here, as he does throughout the film.
It's easy to see why "Driving Miss Daisy" is on so many national critics' top 10 lists, those who saw the film before 1989 came to a close. This is indeed among the year's very best pictures.

NOT JUST A DREAM
Martin Luther King is best known for being an iconic figure in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world, using nonviolent methods following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
We all know about Dr King’s civil rights work, and his I HAVE A DREAM speech. But did we all know that he had two other dreams? WHERE DO WE COME FROM HERE? that explains Dr King’s vision for the end of poverty has been out of print 40 years. He not only focused on Civil Rights, but illustrated a sort of socialist vision for an integrated society. We could have ended poverty a decade ago, except we choose to attach Iraq and blow up a trillion dollars doing it instead of ending poverty. Dr. King provided a snapshot of where Americans were in 1967. Two turning points had been reached. First, his program of nonviolent direct action was clearly winning the struggle against old fashioned southern segregation, and Dr. King was looking toward the next step. He believed that the next logical step toward setting people free was a massive government program addressing the problem of poverty. Second, within the civil rights movement, a "black power" mentality was gaining prominence. Some argued that whites should be excluded from the civil rights movement, and that nonviolence should be abandoned. Dr. King insisted that this approach would only balkanize our country, having disastrous effect, especially on blacks.
He brings us to the question of what African-Americans should do with their new, dearly fought for freedoms found in laws such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965. All Americans black and white must unite in order to fight poverty and create a new equality of opportunity. King is neither a Marxist nor a doctrinaire socialist; he instead advocates for a united social movement that would act within both the Republican and Democratic parties.
He rightly concluded the riots of 1966 and thereafter was "uprisings" against the awful reality that African American equality must a go along with adequate wages, quality schools, and decent houses. All initial aims of the Johnson

administration. African Americans were impossible without meaningful creation of jobs, quality ecation, and a radical change of the forms and vigorous confrontation with and the elimination over time of American racism. King asserts that capitalism itself would have be hugely revamped so it is more inclusive, and, lastly, American militarism is not only brutal to American y

A good romantic action-adventure movie
In writing a story to fit the action in "Mission: Impossible 2", Screenwriter Robert Towne brought nuance, complexity and irony to the human interaction and to the characters… So greed is the animating force…
Being an amazing filmmaker, John Woo wanted "Mission Impossible 2" to have a lot more emotion and romance… A romantic interest that can engage the hero emotionally, pushing him to exercise his skills… In this case, he's trying to save the life of someone he cares for and loves…The story revolves around three characters… The good guy and the bad guy in love with the same girl…
John Woo's sequences were highly developed, completely mind-blowing, dangerous and exciting… Woo really pushed his elements to the edge, designing action that people have never seen…
Tom Cruise and Thandie Newton looked very charming, proving to have a great chemistry with each other… They also looked very natural… I loved the scene when they meet, and how they meet… The opening scene came from Robert Wise's "West Side Story"… It is boy meets girl, girl looks at boy… No story telling was needed… With high speed and the judicious muting of sound, Woo made it a love-at-first-sight moment, isolating our two heroes in a very lovely way…
Tom's character was a new kind of a hero… A person who really cares about people, and enjoys life… He has a great passion about nature, about love, about everything…
Thandie's romantic life was very busy… She is involved with the character played by Dougray Scott, Ambrose who's the key for the Mission team… He is the one with the information which Thandie's character has to win back… Dougray was a really interesting bad guy, as complex a bad guy as you can get and with an impossible mission...
Dougray's Ambrose becomes disillusioned with being in Ethan's shadow… In deciding to have more power, he turns to the other side… He forms a renegade band of ex-Special Forces people… But Ambrose couldn't even be himself… He includes his identity into Hunt's, when Ethan was not available… So if he needed to be something, he had to be Ethan Hunt…
Ving Rhames' Luther was a balance in the team… He's a computer expert who brought the charm to his character… Outside of Ethan Hunt, he is the only returning member of the IMF team…
"Mission: Impossible 2" gave John Woo the ability to really use his filming style, which is the slow motion on key moments… You can see Cruise slow-motion flipping through the air, walking through flames with a white dove sending a message to the evil, running and jumping out of a hole, climbing dangerous scary high cliff, jousting on a motorcycle, trapped in a gun battle, Kick boxing, and having a really sharp and pointy knife in the eye…
