曼德斯在2008年《007大破量子危机》上映后，开始接触本片的导演工作。然而，米高梅公司遭遇财政困难，导致前置作业停摆，直到2010年12月起才恢复作业。在此期间，曼德斯一直以“顾问”工作与此项目接触，不过停工期间，原编剧彼得·摩根离开了前置作业的行列。恢复作业后，由洛根、普维斯与韦德接手，承袭摩根的想法，将剧本完成。拍摄作业渔2011年11月开始，主要在英国、中国与土耳其取景。

剧情介绍
在伊斯坦布尔一次任务失败后，詹姆斯·邦德失去踪影，外界推定其已身亡，MI6其他情报员的身分与每一次任务的资料也意外被泄漏到网络上。在此之后，M夫人的能力受到MI6的质疑，她遂成为政府调查的对象之一。MI6突然遭到攻击，邦德的突然现身让M夫人有借口，要邦德追查一名极度危险的罪犯洛乌·西法－但正当他追着线索前往南海，邦德发现了M夫人过去的秘密，并对M夫人的忠诚起了质疑。

诺博士的情节其实并没有后来的007电影中那么多拯救世界的情怀，诺博士是虚构的国际性犯罪组织魔鬼党成员，他在牙买加买下一座小岛，建立了一个原子能基地，试图通过这里破坏导弹试验给政府制造麻烦而已。

关于配乐
联美音乐部门主管尼尔·罗杰斯(Noel Rodgers)曾在某个周五晚上打电话给约翰·巴里(John Barry)，邀请他为《诺博士》的电影原声带中詹姆斯·邦德这个角色的主题曲做管弦乐编曲，2分钟的原曲作者蒙蒂·诺曼（Monty Norman）。巴里当时以（John Barry Seven）爵士乐团在英国走红，他只在伦敦报纸的连载漫画中看过詹姆斯·邦德这个角色，他在被临时通知的情况下为这首歌编曲，酬劳不到1千美元，也没得到先看过电影的机会。但他的成绩斐然，这首曲子在英国榜获得第13名，巴瑞在以后的30年间，再度被邀请为11部007电影作配乐。
