性的反思中，首先受到质疑的是1970年代以来流行于电影
学科的以符号学、心理分析、结构主义、后结构主义等欧陆
学说为基础的“宏大理论”（grand theory）。大卫·波德维
尔（David Bordwell）、诺埃尔·卡罗尔（Noel Carroll）编
辑出版的《后理论：重构电影研究》和克里斯汀·葛兰希
尔（Christine Gledhill）、琳达·威廉姆斯（Linda Williams）
主编的《重构电影研究》是“宏大理论”批判的集成，两书
不仅对欧陆理论和以其为基础形成的学术套语讥锋犀利，而
且也在一定程度上引领了近年来美英电影研究的“历史转向”
（historical turn）趋势，亦即电影史和电影史写作逐渐从“宏
大理论”的荫佑下浮出，重新成为众多电影学者讨论和研
究的重点。（1）2004年，伴随美英规模最大的学科组织“电
影研究学会”（Society for Cinema Studies）应映情势的变
化更名为“电影与媒体研究学会”（Society for Cinema&
Media Studies），学会季刊《电影杂志》（Cinema Journal）
也在春季号和秋季号的“焦点”（In Focus）专栏汇集了一批
有影响的电影学者，就电影学科在美英的发展状况和电影研
究的“历史转向”进行了深入的讨论。（2）
换一种角度看，电影后百年时期美英电影学界的这种
历史转向或许也反映了更广泛意义的“范式转型”（paradigm
shift）。如果说托马斯·库恩（Thomas Kuhn）在科学哲学
基础上提出的范式转型必须以现存范式的危机为条件的话，
那么，电影后百年时期的“危机”不仅反映在宏大理论面对
日益丰富复杂的电影创作实践逐渐显现了阐释的僵化和教
条，而且也体现在数字技术的出现和成熟迫使电影学者重新
思考一系列形成于胶片电影制作、发行、放映（接受）基础上
的观念和理论。仅以文本为例。从其脱胎自传统人文、社会
科学而自成独立学科起，电影研究的对象就是以胶片为介质、
以放映机投射到银幕上、在暗黑剧院里群体观看的电影文本。
但是，这一文本在很大程度上却因数字技术的发展和普及被
边缘化了。传统电影文本不仅会因数字化而改变形态（如字
幕、版本、画面纵横比、色彩明暗和声音，乃至镜头和叙事
的互动变化等），更会因为数字化所带来的展示平台和观看
环境的不同而发生变异。换言之，后百年时期电影学科的最
大“危机”恐怕是传统研究对象的消失：文本在哪里？哪一
个是文本？哪一种语境下的文本？
范式转型带动了历史的思考。在“历史转向”的大语
境下，关于早期电影及其历史的讨论和写作成了很多学者共
同的旨趣。不过，后百年时期对早期电影的关注，无论在问
题提出还是在历史思考方面，都具有明显的当代特征。除了
对档案材料和第一手资料重要意义的强调、并以此凸现与重
理论轻资料的“宏大理论”派的区别外，“早期电影热”中
提出的很多问题，明显得益于此前电影研究的理论洗礼，并
