It's a kind of magic. Firelight makes time stand still. When you put out the lamps, and sit in the firelight's glow, there aren't any rules any more. 剧情介绍
伊丽莎白的父亲欠了人家很多钱，如果没得还就要去坐牢，伊丽莎白很爱她的父亲。于是她决定去做一件事情来挽救父亲。故事发生在一片火光之中，一个男人在暗处小心翼翼的讲话，由一个老女人传话。伊丽莎白要与他生活一段时间，然后替他生个孩子，这样可以得到很多钱。男人很满意她，交易开始。
第一夜，她冷若冰霜，任男人在她身上施为，两个男女在做着世界上最亲密的事情，却只是一种交易!早晨，男人认真的说：“我们都不是为了情欲而来，那我们就都没有错。”
第二夜，还是一样的事情，不过伊丽莎白计划是幸福的，她的身体散发着活力，不为什么，只是因为这个男人身上的善解人意让她恨不起来，甚至她隐隐约约有些喜欢他--喜欢他那种深层次的忧郁，但他似乎又是可以信赖的。
站在海边，她说，我想喊出来；他说，那就喊吧。她张开口，却只发出了低沉沙哑的声音，她笑了，说，这并不容易。她只能把痛苦压抑在心底，不能发泄出来。偶尔也不行。
后来，激情把他们掩埋。
她生了一个女儿，用尽了全身的力气，她听到一个女孩的啼哭，那是她和他的女儿，身上流淌着她和他的血。可她明白一切结束了，她连那个男人的名字都不知道，她甚至不知道自己女儿的名字。她只记得，他们之间若有若无的爱情，和那声清脆的啼哭。

她的女儿叫露易莎，苍白的面孔，湛蓝的眼睛，有一丝的不安与倔强。这不是有一个听话的女孩，已经气走了4个家庭教师。他叫查尔斯，他看见伊丽莎白后惊恐万分，慌忙叫她离开。伊丽莎白含泪答应只留下一个月。教学是艰难的，露易莎大叫：“你很穷，你只是仆人，我不用听你的。”伊丽莎白告诉她：“没错，你是有钱，但我们是平等的，你结婚后会成为男人的财产，因为你是女人。但他们无法禁锢你的思想，所以我要你学习知识，你明不明白?”后来，她逐步掌握了这个女孩，她慢慢的接受了她的教育。
她了解到，查尔斯有个妻子艾美，只不过她在一次车祸中变成了植物人，有生命但没有思想。查尔斯以前一定很爱她，因为他处处为她着想，伊丽莎白莫名心伤。
他们终于爱火重燃，但是却不能公开，只能偷偷的。
岁月流逝，伊丽莎白依旧沉静优雅。
查尔斯终于做了决定，他打开窗户，冰天雪地，艾美如愿逝去。
露易莎看见了伊丽莎白的画本，明白了一切，扑到她的怀中喊她妈妈。
雪依旧在下，一家三口携手未来，每个人心中冰雪消融。
