I don’t know for sure whether it is the cold or the movie that kept me tossing and turning in bed, but one thing is certain: many scattered fragments of the movie again and again flashed in my mind. My cell phone read 4:16 am at that time, but I was not sleepy at all. So I decided to get up and write something.
"The Pursuit of Happyness" -- the title comes from a misspelled schoolhouse mural -- has a lot on its mind but mostly this: If America is about the promise of bettering oneself, why does it have to be so freaking hard? In the movie, Jefferson's Declaration of Independence words about happiness kept recurring to Chris Gardner. Every day, Christ had to work hard from morning till night, but still could hardly make a living. Chris saw a bunch of suits, mostly male, pouring out of the Dean Witter Reynolds brokerage firm in downtown San Francisco. They all looked “happy,” “Why not me? “ Christ wondered. He did have an adorable boy, Christopher, but wife Linda was becoming a scarecrow of overworked anxiety. Finally, his wife left Christ because of life pressure, leaving him and her five-year-old son, Christopher. And naturally, Christ became a single father.
With the failure of his business, Christ had no money to pay for the rent, so they were driven away from the flat. They became homeless. They slept in asylum, subway station public bathroom or anywhere as a temporary shelter. The destitution of life was absolutely depressing, but for his son’s future, for his own belief, Christ never gave up and he still strongly believed that happiness would come one day if he worked hard enough today.
With his great efforts, Christ won a six-month internship at Dean Witter, but there was no pay at all. So on one hand, Christ had to work hard to make a living; on the other hand, he had to fight for his intern work, since only one of the twenty interns would succeed finally. Besides, he had to take good care of his son after day care. However, Christ made it with his amazing willpower.
Christ was unfortunate, for he got a wife who was not understandable at all (though she has her own difficulties) and was in bad luck with his business. But he was very fortunate also, for he got a son who was very thoughtful and, I think, tough life experiences always make a great person.
It is said that this movie is inspired by a true story, and I want to say, this movie does inspire me a lot. What impressed me most are: Christ’s wife left him because of life pressure; Christ’s love to his son and Christ’s strong belief towards life. Through these, I know that it is not easy to be a good husband and a good Papa, since in reality, only love cannot only make everything. And I also learn that one has to strongly believe in himself, no matter how difficult the situation is, but of course, hard-working is indispensable.

But in the movie, the most important thing is not fighting. It is the pursuit of freedom that attract me most. In the age mentioned in the movie, England ruled Scotland in a cruel way. People in Scotland rebelled.

剪刀手爱德华
The story begins with an old lady telling her granddaughter the story of snow, and why it snows.
Edward Scissorhands lives in a gothic mansion at the top of a hill, below him a suburban town looking very much like a nightmarish vision from the 1960's, where pink and yellow houses nest, neatly grouped together each looking as identical as the inhabitants that live and breathe beneath the roofs.
A very old gentle inventor, played by the renowned actor Vincent Price famous for his performances in Classic horror movies, has created Edward but he sadly dies before he is able to give Edward his hands. Edward is left with only scissors for hands.
In a very comical scene we see Peggy, played by Dianne West, working as an Avon representative visit the mansion on a hopeless task to sell her make up. She is however kinder than most of the residents in the town below and takes it upon herself to give Edward a home, bringing him to the town below to live with her and her family, although with good intentions she lacks the wisdom in her actions.
The film is filled with humorous scenes yet within the humour there is always darker overtones.
The neighbourhood soon accepts Edward in a perverse and freakish way, the people seeing him as a curiosity. He soon becomes popular for his gift of cutting hedges into pieces of beautiful art and arousing the dormant passions of spiteful housewives.
From the beginning of the film we see scenes depicting how it feels if you are different and are amongst people who fit neatly into societies accepted roles. In a horrible dinner scene Peggy's husband reminds Edward that in society money is all that matters if one cannot earn money than one is not acceptable, and he pushes Edward to go to the bank for a loan, obviously they will not give him one without the proper official papers that go with being a member of the social order.
Edward himself has never asked to be created in the manner he was, he is an innocent young man, gentle and greatly gifted, he has a beauty and heart that is found rarely in life. He worships and adores Peggy's daughter Kaye, who from the beginning acts as most teenagers would if they came home and found a strange young man with scissors as hands sleeping in their bed. She makes fun of Edward and soon uses him unwillingly to break into her obnoxious boyfriends house.
Soon after this event Kaye begins to see Edwards beauty and uniqueness in comparison to the people she is surrounded by every day. She reaches out to him with her love holding him close to her.
The people residing in the neighbourhood attack Edward and chase after him through the streets in a similar vein to an early Frankenstein movie directed by James Whale. Kaye saves his life, telling everyone he has been killed she leaves him to be happy on his own the only true way he can live away from people, but with the knowledge that he is loved.
Edward Swissorhands depicts in both humourous ways and dark ones, how life can be if you are different, with Edward on the far end of the scale. Edward is looking for love and understanding something that becomes difficult if you are unusual and something that you long for. It is also a story about someone who cannot physically touch anything or anyone without destroying the thing itself through no fault of his own.
The film is truly wonderful modern fairytale, the gothic mansion is hauntingly beautiful and scenes with Kaye dancing in the snow from Edwards Ice Sculpture's is mesmerising. The story of snow is a rare jewel in filmmaking.

I, robot
Set in a future Earth (2035 A.D.) where robots are common assistants and workers for their human owners, this is the story of "robotophobic" Chicago Police Detective Del Spooner's investigation into the murder of Dr. Alfred Lanning, who works at U.S. Robotics, in which a robot, Sonny, appears to be implicated, even though that would mean the robot had violated the Three Laws of Robotics, which is apparently impossible. It seems impossible because.. if robots can break those laws, there's nothing to stop them from taking over the world, as humans have grown to become completely dependent upon their robots. Or maybe... they already have? Aiding Spooner in his investigation is a psychologist, Dr. Susan Calvin, who specializes in the psyches of robots.
It's 2035 A.D., where robots are everyday objects and are programmed to live alongside humans. Detective Del Spooner is called out to investigate the apparent suicide of the scientist behind these robots, Dr. Alfred Lanning. Spooner suspects that the death might not be a suicide, but the result of one of the robots. All robots are programmed by three laws, but Spooner starts to wonder if a robot can in fact feel emotions, and possibly murder. But if Spooner's suspicions are true, he is going to have a hard time convincing everyone
