回头看这部《功夫熊猫》，从制作的角度讲毫无创举可言，依然是烂大街的“拟人化的动物(怪物)”，相比《超人总动员》探讨中年危机和自我认同危机、《赛车总动员》聚焦汽车文化和现代文明对传统的影响、《料理鼠王》用厨艺行业来针砭好莱坞电影界的时弊(餐厅＝大制片厂，快餐＝商业片，大师不会做饭的孩子＝受惠于“好莱坞世袭制”的新生代，小老鼠＝独立电影人，美食家＝影评人)，并无特异之处。但其聪明之处不在“熊猫”，在乎“功夫”。
“功夫”这个定语，貌似决定了角色设定、动作设计、洋溢着东方风情的背景甚至是配乐(酷似光荣公司的《三国志》)，实则上述三者没一样跟“写实”沾边——“功夫”主题与其说代表中国文化，不如说是全方位回炉“香港功夫片”繁荣期的世界观、动作、故事格局——把老一辈男性观众曾经喜爱的“馅儿”，包上新生代青少年观众和女性观众均可无差别受用的“糖衣”，才是《功夫熊猫》最成功的算计、最狡猾的商业运作。
一旦洞悉到上述《熊猫》的实用主义本色，在钦佩梦工厂炒冷饭手腕的高超之余，小动物们也愈发可爱起来。仿佛是“香港功夫片的主题公园”：成龙倾情Cos美猴王、刘玉玲打扮成小丫环一样的美女蛇、表面上是安吉丽娜·茱莉／伊安·迈克肖恩配音而骨子里颇具李连杰气质的虎／豹、由杰克·布莱克代言搞怪其实分明脱胎于洪金宝的熊猫，外加“犹达大师范儿”和“龟仙人范儿”的两位大长老，……多么有利于吸引票房啊！！！
尽管《功夫熊猫》也试图让自己从“依靠包装取胜”的肤浅水平努力往“触及东方文明内涵”的方向上挖掘，但除去最终爆料的“无招胜有招”的太极思想灵光一瞥外，罕见其他成果。更多的看点则是梦工厂最拿手的戏仿噱头：监狱里横七竖八的楼梯可谓借鉴于《哈利·波特》、越狱戏在落石中腾挪系《蜘蛛侠》的翻版、长桥决斗来自《指环王》、灰尘中无数难民大逃亡克隆自《世界大战》，再加上无数模棱两可的《花木兰》、《卧虎藏龙》、《星球大战》桥段等等。即便是让不知情者感动不已的“恶搞自家片头”这招，亦不过去年底在皮克斯的《星际总动员》(WALL-E)的先行预告片里领教过的老套路。
——这就是《熊猫》为什么属于B级片的原因，本质乃一次对B级片的出色再包装，虽然也添加了A等佐料，但并没升华到更高的台阶。……可是这又怎么样呢！？“形式大于内容”的梦工厂动画，能可爱到这个份上已经足够！何况这是一部以搞笑和盈利为终极目的的动画片，在胜利完成既定目标的情况下，本应获得宽容对待。
从鹅爸爸讲述家族史到鸭子抬轿(换成小猪之后，鸭子们不仅没闪开、反倒像挂炉烤鸭一样倒掉在竹竿上……)，从乌龟大师“没有偶然”的爆笑禅机到熊猫对浣熊的“超级模仿秀”，纵然“最终一指定乾坤被虚化处理，明显是为制作续集预留空间”的行径令人齿寒，但现在《功夫熊猫》发展成系列，俨然符合广大影迷的根本利益。
于是，为这样一部好玩的卡通写评论本身变得毫无必要性；同理，面对这样一部娱乐片叫嚣爱国主义乃至抵制好莱坞的自炒行为，不仅不着边际、毫无价值，而且恶毒得别有用心。我无法否认自己看得很开心；也无法否认如此有趣的商业片对于世界电影市场的意义；更不能否认带着“皮克斯＞梦工厂”的有色眼镜，终究使我对本片没有爱。
