《海上钢琴师》（The Legend of 1900）

真实还是想象

无论是编剧还是导演，都在这里玩了一个大大的花招。本来这不成一个疑问，英文名字中"legend”本身就包含有 "传说”之意（意大利原文是什么呢?）。但是影片一开始导演却让迈克率先登场，而他所有的努力都是想让大家相信1900是真实存在的。自然所有的听众都像我们，既对他的话抱有怀疑，又对他的故事充满兴趣。所以那个乐器店老板最后才会站起来，伸伸腰懒懒地说："好了，你的故事编得真好，可是我们的店要打烊了。”

没有人相信1900是真实存在的——也许除了迈克和导演。但是导演真的相信1900存在吗?其实他的这种拙劣的"伎俩”正表明了他是最怀疑的一个。真正的相信是不需要试图对别人进行说服的。那么他在这里实际上利用了人们的不相信作为了讲故事的一个策略。但是我不能不说这种策略并不见得有多高明，因为这是已经被用滥了的一个手段。而到最后，导演还让迈克试图去挽救1900显得更加的拙劣，导演弄得太"现实”了，以致于故事失去了传说的那种美。

看到所有的人在迈克的努力中被弄得晕头转向，我不由暗自发笑。他们似乎最后都被迈克说服了，相信了有这么一个怪癖的天才存在。而我更吃惊的是，最后的迈克依然那么年轻，而在此之前他的名声早已远播，为什么似乎除了迈克没有一个人知道他，而需要迈克那么费神地去一个个说服?

无主题变奏

这部影片很难让人找到一个合适的主题去分析。从一开始1900就存在于船上，并令人神奇地无师自通地掌握了弹钢琴这样一个高难度的音乐本领。他一开始没有下过船，我们无法分析原因，我们只看到了导演给我们的呈现。这时他还没有看过陆地，所以他不可能产生最后的那个念头，要不就无法理解他曾经产生过到陆地上转转的念头，并几乎把它付诸于实践。这时我们只能把他没有下过船这个事实解释为他没有想过下船，或者是他相信了他那黑人爸爸的话，岸上有吃人的大鲨鱼。但是很显然，后者除了在他不懂事的时候有可能产生效果外，在他成年后恐怕是无法再产生那样的影响的——否则我们只能把他解释为白痴。所以这时他的不下船只能说是一种偶然，而没有原因，没有原因也就没有意义上的价值。他后来听到了那个农民诗人（他能听到海的歌唱，并说出那一席话，不是诗人是什么?）的话，开始对岸产生了一种向往，这更与整个影片的精神主张相悖逆，此处岸反倒显得更有神秘感，而意义重要。再到后来，他遇上了那个女子，爱情产生了，他上岸的冲动更加强烈，终于他要下船了，这让我们的心悬了悬，我们兴奋而紧张，然而就在这时出现了那经典的一幕，在船舷上，他潇洒地把礼帽扔到了大海里，然后重新回到了船上。我们说，直到这个时候他不下船的想法和行为才具有了真正的哲学意义，并凸现了价值。然而此时他的人生已经临近结束，影片也即将结束。那么从整个影片来看，我们怎么分析它始终贯穿统一的主题呢?

真诚还是虚伪

影片中最精彩的一段可能就是1900与爵士乐鼻祖的那段比拼。但是那段太戏剧化了，也就显得太做作了。先不说爵士乐手，1900那似乎真诚投入的感动也让我不是十分舒服——但我不能不承认那一刻他感到了我，能为自己的对手鼓掌的人是值得人钦佩的。一对一的比拼进行得很激烈，导演运用了各种能够想得起来的手法对整个气氛进行了烘托（但是我要说这些手法都没有新意，比如说通过观众的表情来侧面表现），等1900被迫弹起《圣诞之歌》时我的心很激动，我以为真正的精彩就要出现了，等到1900重复爵士乐手的演奏时我依然对导演抱有期待，但是等最后1900弹起那首令观众激动万分，也让银幕下的影迷激动万分的乐曲时，我却感到了失望。导演还是无法自拔地落入了俗套。他以为弹得快就是好音乐吗?那么大家都比快好了！这让我想起金庸的武侠世界，在那里，真正的高手往往是不屑于用武器的，或者是用最钝，如未开刃的黑铁，或小孩子用的玩具，如木剑，甚至树枝、木条等等作为兵器。而他们的武功往往也是温和的，如太极拳，但是因为他们是高手，所以他们释放出来的力量又是最强大的。我本来以为1900也会是这样的高手，他弹最简单的《圣诞之歌》，弹爵士乐手弹过的乐曲，外行人是吃惊的，不理解的，但是高手如爵士乐鼻祖者他应该是能听得出平凡中的不平凡的，同样一首曲子，在1900的手里却像获得了新生命，正是这让他黯然认输。我想这总比让1900拿跟香烟燃钢丝要有意思的多吧。

还有1900一开始是退缩的，他似乎不能理解爵士乐手为什么要同他比赛，他"真诚”地为爵士乐手鼓掌，并感动得泪水长流。但是他似乎忍受不了爵士乐手的一再相逼，终于暴露了真面目，有点恶狠狠地对爵士乐手说："混蛋，这是你自找的！”这句话让我吃了一惊，一瞬间他开始的真诚在我的大脑里都化为灰烬，只留下了他此刻的表情，他刚开始的真诚此刻仿佛带了点阴暗的色彩。我不喜欢他这样，我倒宁愿他一直傻傻地傻下去。他不要跟人争斗，他就是他，一个纯粹的与世无争的只爱音乐的天才！

爱情小插曲

看到一半的时候，1900还没有表现出一丝对女人的兴趣，这让我有点暗自着急。我认为一个没有下过船的人，爱情对他来说可能更富于传奇。以他当时的名气，他的身边应该环绕着数不尽的美丽的女人，她们应该为他着迷，他也沉浸其中，享受爱情的甜美。但是不，导演似乎忽略了这一点，只让一个肥胖的小号手追随在他的身边。然而到了后半部，导演似乎终于觉得有必要关注关注这位传奇年轻人的私生活了，于是给他安排了一次奇遇，而碰巧的是这个女主人公正是曾给他过影响的那个农民诗人的女儿。她也正好是要去找她的父亲。因为她的出现促成了以下几件事情：第一，1900完成了他唯一一张唱片中的那首乐曲，从这一点上来说，她，或者爱情，给了他灵感；第二，因为她没有能接受他的礼物（奇怪的是她说的话他都听到了，而且那时她离他更远，且她的声音肯定不如他的大。唯一的可能的解释是他处于下风口。但是从常识上判断，他处于上风口的可能性倒更大一点。），所以他把那唯一的一张唱片毁掉了（迈克把它修整好，塞进了钢琴里，但是也许他应该把它收藏起来留个纪念更好，他不怕1900再把它毁掉吗?）；第三，因为她（当然也因为她的父亲），1900准备上岸去生活，去听听大海的声音。并间接促成了他那个伟大的念头。从这里来讲，那个女孩子的出现是恰当的，但是他们的爱情总让我有一种可有可无的感觉，仿佛只是为了完成一个仪式，或者如上面所说推动故事情节的一些发展。因此在这里她只是起到了一个道具的作用，爱情是不存在的。

为什么要去死?

1900 最后的死让人心里很难接受。如果要怪的话，我认为应该怪导演。因为1900完全是可以不死的。不是吗?1900惧怕上岸，只是因为他感到陆地太远了，城市远得看不到尽头。这让他心里发慌。他怕自己陷入到这种无穷无尽中去，从而无法再纯粹地沉浸于音乐之中。因而套用一个朋友的话来说，"他要的是纯粹。”他熟悉——也是他感到最舒适——的世界就是一条那样的船，每次人再多也不过2000人。他就生活在琴键上，而琴键也是有限的。从始至终，他表达的都是一个"空间”的概念，他不是天生喜欢船的，也不是天生就要生活在船上的，只是他习惯而且不得已。并且他表达的"船”并没有强调必须是"此船”，那么我们完全可以理解，换一条船他同样可以快乐地生活下去。那么我们为何不给他换条新船，而必须让他跟这条旧船一起死去呢?

这样的质问也许会让导演、也让所有的观众尴尬，这将使故事的结局急转直下，并失去那一层人为抹上去的浪漫色彩。

也许我这样的分析太冷酷，也太不艺术化了！

一个浪漫化的结尾想象

尽管我说这是一次非浪漫化的旅程，但是并不表示我就那么反对浪漫化。事实上，不管是对《海上钢琴师》，还是对《树上的男爵》，对他们的结尾我都抱有遗憾。我想，如果是我的话，我绝对不会那样去处理，在我的想象中，1900应该神秘地消失，也就是说迈克不应当找到1900，而是在他最绝望的时候，突然听说在某个船上有一个天才的钢琴家，他的演技无可挑剔，他的乐声美妙动人，而且——据说他从不下船。从别人的描述里，迈克意识到那个人很有可能就是 1900，这时一丝甜蜜的微笑悄悄地在迈克的脸上绽放，于是音乐响起，是1900狂风暴雨似的钢琴声，在琴声中镜头转向大海，海上有美丽的船只，船只背后是美丽的晚霞，船只成了一个个美丽的剪影。琴声像是从每只船上飘出来的，那么多，那么急骤，仿佛有多个1900在一起弹奏似的。于是字幕升起……

同样，男爵没有必要拉上那个热气球，他应该在某一天，突然沿着树向远方爬去，越爬越远，渐渐地在众人惊讶的视线里变成了一个小点，最后连这个小点也看不见了。后来人们再也没有见到过这个终生没有下过树的男爵……

什么是权力？当一个人犯了罪，法官依法判他死刑。这不叫权力，这叫正义。而当一个人同样犯了罪，皇帝可判他死也可以不判他死。于是赦免了他。这就叫权力。

——《四根羽毛》

史诗式电影《四根羽毛》原本是一部描述荣誉与恐惧的英国文学名著，从1920年始已被六次搬上银幕。故事讲述的是1898年英国与苏丹开战，一名即将新婚的贵族军官哈利在接到开赴北非的命名后，怀着莫名的恐惧在出征前的一晚决定退役。这一举动在民族主义高涨的英国上流社会掀起巨大波澜。他的未婚妻和三位朋友一道，扔给他代表着耻辱和藐视的四根羽毛。四根羽毛分别象征着“自由、祖国、荣誉和激情（Freedom、Country、Honor、 Passion）”四种价值被临阵退逃者抛弃。哈利四处流浪之后决定独自前往北非，他化装为阿拉伯人，在沙漠战役中经历磨难，克服恐惧，最终将他沦陷敌手的朋友一一救出。在故事中一名职业军人的命运与个人的荣辱形成了鲜明的比照，它让人们惊讶地发现，剥离英雄尊贵的外衣，裸露与阳光下的竟然也只是一颗世俗的心。
