Our main pups include brave Lucky, who gets a strong personality mirroring his character in the book, lovable Rolly, the gourmand of the pups, and sweet little Cadpig, who is the true runt of the litter. Also there is Spot the chicken, who longs to be a dog. I find them all extremely amiable and enjoyable to watch. They are usually foiling Cruella's schemes for their land, or outwitting Lt. Pug (I'll get to him later), or sneaking into Grutely, or...just having fun, making a very likable show.

This film was absolutely amazing. I have spent hours re-watching various scenes and noticing all the perfection with which they are acted and directed. It's not the violence or action sequences that make this movie so great (although they are well done...), but rather moments like where Mathilda knocks on Leon's door. It would be so easy to just film the door opening, but instead we see light illuminating Natalie Portman's face, symbolizing something angelic. And the moment has so much more meaning.
I know a lot of people who have seen this film because they are action fans. I'm not. But I'm glad I finally found it, because it's a wonderful film in so many other ways.

Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture. Xu datong is a video games designer in St. Louis. When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed.

一、人類歷史上最偉大的帝國
如果帝國在現代漢語里是一個略帶貶抑的名詞的話，那麼把它用在美國的頭上，我覺得有必要加以一定的修飾，那就是：人類歷史上最偉大的帝國。可惜的是，在央視的《大國崛起》系列片里，由於當局意識形態的局限性，美國篇和蘇聯篇一樣都令人失望。用西人的諺語說就是：BEAT AROUND THE BUSH，不得要領。
《大國崛起 美國篇》中有兩個重點：其一，獨立戰爭、南北戰爭。其二，危局新政。
現在當朝者在討論到中國的台灣問題時，常會援引美國南北戰爭為例來闡述統一的正當性，所以央視的編導們當然也要不遺餘力地濃墨重彩描繪一下該事件。不過，人們常常忘了美國南北戰爭雙方的特徵是以工業資產階級民主派為代表的北方與農奴制庄園主為代表的南方之間的斗爭。雙方各自代表的階層在歷史大潮中此消彼長的特點才是最後成敗的關鍵。回想當年美國脫離英國的獨立戰爭，美國獨立成功，而時隔百年在美國內部的南部獨立戰爭卻失敗了。所以，並不是所有的統一戰爭或者獨立戰爭都可以以民族統一國家統一的大帽子來代表戰爭的正義性與否，關鍵的問題還是雙方政權各自代表的階層和行政經濟運作方式是否符合社會發展的要求。我們中國人都期盼中國統一大業的早日完成，然而統一的藍圖是如何描繪的呢？美國的獨立戰爭和南北戰爭給了我們明確的啟示。強大如英國者，不能阻擋美國的獨立。強大如南方軍者，也不能阻擋美國北方軍的統一。獨立與統一，誰是誰非？歷史老人告訴我們：只有民主的，進步的，代表新經濟發展方向的體制才有資格統一或者獨立。獨立或統一，是人民的選擇，是歷史的選擇，而絕不是某些肉食者或民粹主義或民族主義式的吶喊所能決定的。大陸若不自強，最終將無法阻止台灣的獨立。
講到危局新政，那是指1929年發生的資本主義經濟危機以及其後的羅斯福新政。央視的編導們口沫橫飛地描述了當年美國人的悲慘生活：煤礦經常發生爆炸事故，工人超時加班現象嚴重，政府職能部門腐敗貪污，自然環境為工業污染所破壞，食品攙假影響人民健康，社會貧富兩極分化.......當那個被采訪的美國問題研究專家講到這些問題的時候，我發現了她臉上一絲不易察覺的笑容：是的，她羞愧了。在她講這些問題的時候，我覺得她應該和我同樣想到了：這些，80年前發生在美國的這些，不正是現在正在中國大地上發生著的事情么？只是，不能說，也說不得。那位教授只好在面對采訪的時候，尷尬地露出一點羞愧的笑，然後繼續向老美開炮。有趣的是，編導們的畫外音出現了：蘇聯的計劃經濟一片繁榮，所以美國人也要學習蘇聯老大哥。弦外之音是：老祖宗之法，也曾經輝煌過！可惜，錯了，又錯了。美國總統羅斯福實行的新政以凱恩斯的理論為基礎絕對不是蘇聯計劃經濟的那一套，美國的政府經濟干預是在自由市場經濟的基礎上進行的，是遵循市場經濟規律而絕非如計劃經濟那樣凌駕於市場之上的模式。應該說，美國乃至整個西方社會出現的經濟危機不過是當年全球經濟科技高速發展之餘，產能過剩導致的一次自我調整。防佛一個小兒在青春期迅速成長的階段，如果運動過度而又營養補充跟不上的話，容易缺鈣抽筋。羅斯福總統不過是在適當的時候給了社會一劑強心針和一點鈣片。羅斯福總統的名言是「我們最大的恐懼是內心的恐懼本身」。我的理解是，體制本身的問題不大，是人的內心恐慌情緒導致了股市的大拋盤進而影響了整個經濟形式。當然，羅斯福總統的「鈣片」：加大政府公共建設財政投資以拉動經濟的做法也確實起了巨大的作用。至於蘇聯則不然，它對資本主義經濟危機的抵禦能力在前文我曾表述過我的看法，就不再這里繼續贅述了。
還有一個有趣的話題是關於「壟斷」。美國篇里長時間討論美國洛克非勒石油公司等托拉斯壟斷問題，闡述的是資本主義自由競爭後期發展出來的壟斷企業所帶來的社會矛盾。其中，采訪了錢穎一教授，他的觀點一針見血：壟斷的問題並不在於壟斷的財富積累本身，而在於它影響了人們自由競爭的平等機會之權利。「自由競爭」「平等權利」這些字眼，有意無意地出現了！所謂的蘇聯式的國有大企業，大銀行，大電信，大郵政，大交通系統，難道不正是一種國家式的大托拉斯么？這樣的社會組織形式又給普通的消費者經營者們帶來了什麼？如果說，美國托拉斯影響的是平等競爭的機會，那麼蘇聯式國有大企業影響的就不只是平等競爭的機會，而卻是對私有財產的野蠻掠奪和消費者權益的漠視乃至服務質量和工作效率的下降。如果說羅斯福新政對於壟斷托拉斯大企業開刀是美國式資本主義經濟膿瘡爆發的一次自我療傷，那麼所謂優秀的「蘇聯式社會主義經濟」走上的國家壟斷的道路又是怎樣的一個奇怪的南轅北轍！人所不欲，則施於己？實在是有趣之極。

在列強中把中國的庚子賠款退還中國興辦學校與醫院的，肩並肩協助中國打敗日本的主要國家，那還是美國！
就連我們現在日日上網拍磚所依賴的電腦，互聯網等，又有哪些不是來自美國？在這樣一片開放的，聚合全球各膚色人才的熱土上，還有什麼樣的奇跡不能發生？美國，依然吸引著全球的目光，並代表著人類發展的最先驅。或許，人類永遠沒有最完美的制度，但在過去100年裡，美國，是當之無愧的全世界最偉大的帝國。

先坦白，上課的時候我一直都沒有怎麼聽講。但看《大國崛起》影片的時候，我敢說我無疑是最認真的。從前到後一集補落，雖然我沒有做筆記的習慣，但我依然清楚得記得其中得許多細節，可能會記住一輩子。
作為一個自認為有夢想、有抱負的男生，不會對《大國崛起》這樣的影片沒有興趣，甚至是無動於衷。看了《大國崛起》，從小處來說，它補充了我許多中外歷史地理人文知識；從大處講，它給了我心靈許多震撼，提升了我的人生觀，價值觀，讓我對社會的過去現在和未來有的更加清楚的認識。
國家為什麼而強大，就像人為什麼而發財一樣。為什麼有的人能夠發財呢？從古至今，多少豪傑，苦思冥想，想白了頭發。這也是現代人最想知道的，我們來學習似乎也就是為了這個。
還是馬尅思老先生一語道破天機——「剝削」。此語一出，石破天驚，從葡萄牙至美利堅，從秦漢至明清，從埃及法老王到民國蔣委員長，他們的不可一世似乎一下子變得蒼白無力了。只可憐馬先生成了眾矢之的過街老鼠了。
從古至今，世界上強國林立。埃及奴隷羅馬希臘我暸解不多，暫且不談，商湯周武，現在的人暸解得更不多，不說也罷。就來說說我們偉大秦朝吧，秦國的疆土用現在的眼光來看不是很大，只有我們現在面積的一半，西邊到陜西，東邊到遼東半島，還沾了點今天朝鮮的地盤，北邊「乃使蒙恬北築長城而守蕃籬」（今寧夏內蒙古有長城的地方），南邊「南取百越之地，以為桂林象郡」（今廣西雲南）。這樣看來就不包括今天的西藏，青海，新疆，內外蒙古，東北三省，台灣島，海南島。雖然不包括這些地方，不過不得不承認它是當時世界上的第一強國。為什麼呢？我們先來看看孕育大秦帝國的春秋戰國時代吧。春秋五霸，戰國七雄，還有機百號羅羅小國前前後後打了四五百年的時間。打戰誰輸誰贏受苦的永遠是咱老百姓，軍費糧草呀都是咱老百姓出，拋頭顱灑熱血當然也是咱老百姓的事，不管是趙括還是孫武，宋襄還是齊桓，他們住的都是深宅大院，吃的都是山珍海味，穿的都是綾羅綢緞，百姓們即使沒有立錐之地，只要你借塊地讓他種，你就是他們的父母青天，這些王侯將相都只是拿百姓的生命當賭資，切磋賭技的賭徒而已。好一場豪賭!而贏政只不過是他們中間最後的贏家罷暸。統一了，解放了，人民的負擔卻更加重了，修宮殿，築長城，游會稽，求仙葯，皇帝的慾望不是一般人可以想像的。這才打造了始皇帝的鐵桶江山，世界第一強國。
後來的人發現一個問題，這么些臣民們怎麼管呀，諸子百家，各顯神通了，結果名、墨兩家中道而絕，儒、道兩家便成了中國文化隂陽互補的主流思想（法家只是儒家的同宗別派），中國的文化就是要讓我們都當順民，良民。不聽話，不乖乖讓我剝削的就是刁民，不管是士大夫還是平頭百姓都是不能容忍刁民的。除非你刁得像劉備像朱元璋。
中國後來也越來越強大了，西漢時候先拿西域開刀，大宛的汗血寶馬，樓蘭的美女都給大爺送過來，唐朝的時候又看上人家突厥的牛羊，吐蕃的白玉，大清朝的時候更是帶來了東北的人參貂皮東珠鹿茸。漢武帝好大喜功，晉朝全國上下都膜拜孔方兄，隋煬帝更是鑿運河，建洛陽，唐朝出了個喜歡吃荔枝得貴妃，明成祖剛上台就營建故宮。一個人能在一夜直接剝削了幾代人的財富，真是件暸不起的事情。
再後來我們發展到極致了，因為我們沒有更多的人讓他們剝削了，北邊是蒙古大漠，西邊是蔥嶺昆侖山羅布泊，南邊喜馬拉雅山橫斷山脈，東邊是食之無味的倭夷扶桑。剝削誰呢，鄭三保下西洋兜了半圈，外國人有的咱大明朝有了，外國人沒有的咱大明朝也有了，夫復何求，關起門來好好過兩天小日子吧。也許因為地盤足夠大了，也許是小日子過得太愜意了，除了像南宋這樣得朝廷被逼到臨安，中國得都城總是遠離大海。這就給了葡萄牙人機會了。
於是，葡萄牙人走出來了，背靠強大可怕的西班牙，面向蔚藍無垠的大海。真可謂是前有堵截，後有追兵。勇敢浪漫的葡萄牙人只有出海了。上帝跟他們開了個玩笑，送給他們一個比大海還大的禮物，他們找到了能夠讓他們瘋狂剝削的廣大的顧客群——非洲大陸，接著歐洲的紅眼豺狼們紛紛出發了，一個被稱做印度的不幸的古國，一個名為美洲的新世界，還好東方神秘古國的大門還算半個結實。剝削掠奪得越多就越強大，非洲的奴隷，美洲的印第安，這些都是活動著的黃金呀；埃及的僵屍，印度象牙佛像都是無價之寶；還有澳大利亞的廣袤的牧場。這才是一個真正的世界霸主的樣子呀。
成吉思汗說：「鎮壓叛亂者、戰勝敵人，將他們連根鏟除，奪取他們所有的一切；使他們的已婚婦女號哭、流淚，騎乘著他們後背平滑的駿馬，將他們的美貌的後妃的腹部當作睡衣和墊子，注視著她們的玫瑰色的面頰並親吻著，吮她們的乳頭色的甜密的嘴唇，這才是男子漢最大的樂趣。」
蛇有蛇路，鼠有鼠道，還是你方唱罷我登場，500年來，9個世界性強過相機以自己的方式登場亮相在霸主的寶座上過過癮。
霸主也不是好當的，經常分贓不均了就容易出事情，世界大戰便爆發了。歐洲的世界大戰無非跟中國的春秋戰國一樣。不同的是沒打幾天就熄火了，大家都意識到這樣打下去誰都沒有好結果。地毬就這么大，怎麼分呀？月毬計劃現在還不現實。當大家意識到從10個人身上剝削1塊錢跟從1個人身上剝削10塊錢得效果是一樣的時候，牛頓，愛迪生便成了人們心中的偶像，跟亞歷山大，屋大維平起平坐了。這時候科學技術便也成了第一生產力了。
今天中國的所謂社會主義，跟西方的所謂資本主義到底有何區別，不是每個人都是馬尅思，也不是每個人都學過馬尅思，更不是每個人都懂馬尅思。中國老百姓是善於忍耐的，任你東洋槍西洋炮，炮轟八達嶺，火燒圓明園，只要能混口吃的，懷揣著桃花源的美夢，我才管你撐死美國人餓死非洲人呢。如今的中國人都是當年滿清入關先剃頭發民國又剪辮子的孬種的後代了，這年頭頂多冒一兩小憤青扯一兩嗓子，真正敢出來做點開天闢地的大事情的人早被滿門抄斬了。炎帝陵，倉頡墓，會稽山大禹像，霸王虞姬廟，白馬寺十八羅漢，醫聖張仲景祠堂，四大孔廟，南陽諸葛草廬，漢中定軍山石碑，書聖王羲之陵墓，文成公主像，合肥包公祠，岳飛廟，成吉思汗陵，南包公海瑞墳墓，張之洞故居……太多太多了，近代的我就不好說了，這些哪個不是被你們憤青砸得個底朝天。現在還動不動開口閉口就中國人不中國人的，中國人有你們這樣的么，秦始皇焚書阬儒，明清文字獄加起來也沒你們牛吧。忍無可忍。平時為了幾個獎學金都能勾心鬥角爾虞我詐，你以為等到地震的時候站出來捐個幾百幾千塊人民幣你就堂而皇之一合格的社會主義大學生了？建議你們無聊的時候還是去看看《大國崛起》吧。

開傷疤有許多種方法，哭訴的、淡漠的、嘮叨的，官方的、民間的、第三國的，等等等等。陸川這一部，可以說是來自民間的聲音，在《南京，南京》中有著多個聲音在敘述。抵抗組織的、國際友人、普通民眾以及日本軍人，但並不嘈雜，但是殘酷、直接，寫實到讓人目不忍睹的地步。銘記南京大屠殺，不止是一個冰冷的數字，每個人都曾經是鮮活的生命。
《南京！南京！》相比很多同背景的電影有著很明顯的進步，那就是呈現出中國人的抵抗狀態，南京淪陷之後，中國人並非不抵抗，無論是武裝的戰士還是手無寸鐵的平民，或者用子彈來說話，或者同仇敵愾，即便是妓女想保持美貌和發型、貴婦們打麻將，分別也是對生活的熱愛和堅持，那不是商女不知亡國恨而是苦中作樂更可哀，作為現代人要同情和理解他們的處境。

電影完全沒有迴避強奸女人、無目的的殺害路人和慰安婦問題，陸川很好的處理了不同角度看待同一事件的難題。「中國不能亡」的呼喊穿過七十年的時空，於今是「中國不能忘」。攻下南京，殺戮南京，震懾中國人，則是日本人的構想，在今天則是「承認、道歉和反思」。在日本人尤其是右翼和政府很沒有認可並全面反思的今天，我們中國人是沒有資格來原諒日本人的。文明的沖突，是根深蒂固的基因，遺傳在深層次的血脈之中。所以，絕對不應該以「日本人/軍人也是戰爭的受害者」來做泥菩薩狀，當獅子吼之時就喊出來吧。
《南京！南京！》和《拉貝日記》可以相互參照，彼此提供了他者的目光，無論如何角川的例子是非常罕見的，即使是歷史上真實存在，也不能代替其他百萬以上的侵略軍，更何況他本人在電影中也是優秀的戰士。他越優秀，殺害中國人就越多。與之形成鮮明對比的是小津安二郎，這位日本最著名的導演之一在戰爭期間是戰績卓越的毒氣戰專家，他從未進行反思，在他的日記中保留大量的戰爭細節。

I watched this movie when it first came out thirty years ago. The music is wonderful. Just what you would expect. The take on the story is a little different but not so different as to disappoint diehard Cinderella fans. There is more of a back story to the Prince and a new dilemma keeping him and Cinderella apart. The stepmother and stepsisters are divine. They nailed the parts. The fairy godmother is a riot and probably my favorite character in this movie. The incidental love story of the prince's companion-at-arms and a lady-in-waiting is very charming. I have always loved fairy tales and I was not disappointed in the retelling of one of the world's favorites.

The first impressive characteristic may be that the fiancé of Rose, Karl would gain his ends by fair means or foul. When he noticed that Rose has obliquity with Jack, he took out the necklace with a diamond of 56 carats named 「the heart of the ocean」, to request Rose not to leave him. He knows that Rose doesn』t love him, but he chose to use money to keep Rose with him. When Titanic was sinking, both Jack and Karl were trying to trick Rose into getting on the accident boat. Since Karl had already bribed a sailor, he lied to Rose that he would ensure that Jack will also get on the boat. Nevertheless, when Karl himself was rejected to get on the accident boat, he again used an intrigue that he picked up an outcast child and pretended to be the father of the child, and managed to get on the accident boat. Another negative social mood of that time exposed by the film is vanity. Rose』s mother wanted to marry her daughter to Karl just because Karl is extremely rich, while she doesn』t care whether Rose loves him or not. When Jack wearing a suit borrowed from a woman to attend the dinner invited by Karl, he was respected by other guests. However, when he wore his own clothes maybe a little bit shabby, and tried to enter the ballroom to look for Rose, he was driven out by the two guards outside the ballroom. The two respondences depending on Jack』s appearance contrasted sharply, and really very shocking for us to imagine a society like that. Anyway, there are some brilliant aspects of human nature showed in this film. There is love, bravery, faith, and beliefs existing at the scene. The presence of love was impenetrated through the whole film. The love is not only expressed between Jack and Rose, but also exists among the families. When the water was poured into the ship, when men are forced to be obstructed from their wives and children, an old couple held each other tightly in the bed; a father comforted his daughter he will just leave her for a while, just a little while… When Titanic was sinking, some musicians were performing pieces of music, some disciples were praying to Virgin Mary around the priest on their knees…
In conclusion, the film of 「Titanic」 is not simply an affectional story between Jack and Rose. It shows more than love. The wreck of Titanic represents the collapse of the Capitalism, which is considered 「unsinkable」 by most people. The film also shows different aspects of human nature. Some people own strong vainglory, while some other possess much of love; still others are rich in firm faith and beliefs. We should always keep in mind that, no matter how enormous the calamity is, no matter how defective the people are, we should believe there are always more virtue than vice in the world…

This film was absolutely amazing. I have spent hours re-watching various scenes and noticing all the perfection with which they are acted and directed. It's not the violence or action sequences that make this movie so great (although they are well done...), but rather moments like where Mathilda knocks on Leon's door. It would be so easy to just film the door opening, but instead we see light illuminating Natalie Portman's face, symbolizing something angelic. And the moment has so much more meaning.
I know a lot of people who have seen this film because they are action fans. I'm not. But I'm glad I finally found it, because it's a wonderful film in so many other ways.

Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture. Xu datong is a video games designer in St. Louis. When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed.

It's about assimilation into American culture, and not assimilation in an 」International」 city, like SF or NY or LA or Chicago, but St. Louis, MO (actually shot there). Really great acting, interesting story.
