I just got back from seeing The Aviator with Leonardo diCaprio as Howard Hughes. I believe Leonardo has gotten a bum rap as an actor for some time. I liked him in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I thought he was perfectly cast in Catch Me if You Can. And whatever else you say about Titanic, his part as Jack Dawson will go down in history. But as eccentric inventor/businessman/aviator Hughes, diCaprio should be awarded an Oscar.

The film runs a bit long, but were we not needing to get home to the babysitter, I would have liked to seen a bit more. Hughes' life is absolutely fascinating, if not sad. Covering approximately 20 years of his life, The Aviator is heavy on dialogue and relationships. It is also a bit creepy as we get to experience what I can only assume is a form of schizophrenia through the eyes of Howard Hughes.

The story of the crazed entrepreneur is a bit reminiscent of Citizen Kane, but Martin Scorsese adds a great deal more life to this film. From Hughes battles with Hollywood to his vision for bigger, faster airplanes to his relationships with Kathryn Hepburn (Cate Blanchett) and Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale) to his confrontation with the corrupt Senator Brewster (Alan Alda) in congressional committee hearings designed to destroy Hughes, his life plays out as a triumphant and sad sweeping epic.

The Aviator has a lot of profanity, but I highly recommend it as a profile into the mind of a great American whose contributions have had a lasting impact on our culture.

影片《肖申克的救贖》一般被認為是一部勵志片。但是，在我看來，它不僅僅是一部勵志片，更是一部探討生命，自由以及人處於逆境中所迸發出來的超乎想像的潛能的影片。
影片故事集中發生在一個叫肖申克的監獄中，四面都是高牆柵欄，只有抬頭仰望天空時，才會發現外面還有另一個世界。主人公因為法庭的的誤判而被監禁在這里。或許，許多觀眾都會認為主人公的後半生都會在這里度過了。對於監獄里的其他犯人來說，這里或許就是他們以後的歸宿。他們好像已經接受了命運的安排，整天就是打架，賭錢，絲毫不在意大牆內外的不同世界。在他們的內心深處，已經不存在監獄這堵牆了。他們已經放棄了對生命和自由的渴望，但是，對於主人公來說，他沒有放棄……
起初，主人公表現的與其他犯人沒有兩樣，只是一直比較沉默寡言。然而，不再沉默中爆發，就在沉默中滅亡。孰知這長久的沉默是為那最後瞬間的爆發而積蓄著巨大的能量。主人公憑借自己的聰明才智給監獄長洗錢而受到重用，而後又堅持每周給監獄上級寫信，要求撥款在監獄建圖書館。在堅持了幾年的每周寫信後，監獄上級終於同意撥款建圖書館。就這樣，主人公一步一步，悄無聲息的實施著自己的計劃，終於在一個雷雨交加的黑夜，主人公終於沖破了監禁他20年的監獄.。當監獄長看到那幅畫底下的那個大窟窿時，一切都真相大白了。觀眾無不為主人公的聰明智慧所折服，真是大快人心！
20年的時間足以摧毀一個人的意志，消磨一個人的耐心。但是，影片中主人公卻沒有被時間所摧毀，卻顯示出了更強的生命鬥志。當人處於逆境中時，人的潛能到底有多大，誰也不知道。但是，當你對生命和自由有強烈的渴望和追求時，積聚在你內心深處的巨大潛能就會迸發出來，這就是生命的力量，讓我們向生命致敬！

This film was absolutely amazing. I have spent hours re-watching various scenes and noticing all the perfection with which they are acted and directed. It's not the violence or action sequences that make this movie so great (although they are well done...), but rather moments like where Mathilda knocks on Leon's door. It would be so easy to just film the door opening, but instead we see light illuminating Natalie Portman's face, symbolizing something angelic. And the moment has so much more meaning.

I know a lot of people who have seen this film because they are action fans. I'm not. But I'm glad I finally found it, because it's a wonderful film in so many other ways.

這是一個根據黑人投資專家Chris Gardner的傳記性圖書《The pursuit of happyness》這一真實的故事改編的電影主人公克里斯·加德納的成長過程並沒有父親的陪伴，28歲才第一次見到父親。於是當他也做了父親的時候，他發誓要做一個稱職的好爸爸。然而天不遂願，這位單身父親屢遇不順，遭遇失業等不幸，和年幼的兒子相依為命、流離失所。為了兒子的幸福，加德納咬緊牙關重新振作，處處向機會敲門，並毛遂自薦進入一家證券公司工作，從最底層的員工做起。終於皇天不負苦心人，他最後成為知名的金融投資家。之後，他慷慨解囊，熱心捐助公益活動，成為全美知名的慈善人物。而過程中支持他咬緊牙關的最大動力，除了寶貝兒子外，就是他始終相信：只要今天夠努力，幸福明天就會來臨。
