小王子：hi, are you the people on the earth?
宇航員：oh, yes, of course! But aren』t you? 小王子：of course, I』m not! I come from another planet.

So the little prince, in spite of all the good will that was inseparable from his love, had soon come to doubt her. He had taken seriously words which were without importance, and it made him very unhappy. At last, he decided to go outside have a long journey. He believed that he would never want to return. But on this last morning all these familiar tasks seemed very precious to him. And when he watered the flower for the last time, and prepared to place her under the shelter of her glass globe, he realised that he was very close to tears. 小王子：Goodbye. 玫瑰花：... ... 小王子：Goodbye
I have been silly, I ask your forgiveness. Try to be happy... ...
Of course I love you, It is my fault that you have not known it all the while. That is

開場白

宇宙很大，有著千千萬萬顆星球。
除了我們所知的，地球、木星、水星、火星等等，還有許多別的很小的星球。用望遠鏡很難觀測到它們。而一旦有天文學家觀測到某一顆星球，就會給它一個號碼當名字。
小王子住的"B612號小行星"便是如此。
小王子生活的這顆星球很小，比一幢房子大不了多少。
星球上有兩座活火山和一座死火山。火山口如果經常清掃的話就不會出現地球那樣的火山大爆發了，而是平穩的、緩慢的燃燒。所以，小王子就會經常清掃三座火山。要問為什麼連死火山口也清掃，那是因為誰知道它還會不會再活過來。
小王子的星球上長著一種樸素的、只有一圈花瓣的花。它們清晨開放，夜晚凋謝，從不妨礙別人。
直到有一天，不知從哪兒，風帶來了一顆種子。她開始發芽。
小王子從沒有見過這樣的植物。這是一株玫瑰。小王子靜靜地等候著花兒的綻放，但花兒一點也不急。像是在准備一個奇跡，精心的、慢條斯理的躲在花蕾里，修飾著自己。
而我們的故事，就從花兒綻放的那一刻開始——
玫瑰：是的，我愛你。可你什麼也不知道，這是我的錯。再說什麼也沒有用了。不過你和我一樣傻。努力做個幸福的人……把罩子放回去吧，我用不著它了。

《小王子》這部童話雖然只是作者在3個月一氣呵成的作品，但卻有著深刻的創作背景，是作者幾年、甚至是幾十年生活和情感的積累，是厚積薄發的產物。

它不僅是一部給孩子看的童話，更是哲理與思考的「結晶」，充滿了對人生的感悟。

聖埃克蘇佩里這位外人眼中的硬漢子卻有著敏感細膩的內心和憂郁柔曼的個性。作者創作《小王子》時已過不惑之年，幾次人生大的起伏之後，逐漸走向成熟。

小王子離開自己的星球漂流在外，卻時時惦記那朵玫瑰，正是作者赴美尋求慰藉後，對康蘇羅無時無刻的牽掛。

造成這部書的不同還和當時的二戰背景有關：《小王子》創作於1942年，出版於1943年，當時正是二戰最關鍵的時刻。

1940年法國戰敗，隨著歐戰開始，聖埃克蘇佩里曾應征入伍，參加空軍偵察行動，目睹法國空軍大潰敗。維希政府與希特勒簽訂停戰協定後，他復員沉沒彷徨了一段時間，輾轉北非、葡萄牙來到了美國。

在美國的兩年期間，他與母親的通信聯系幾乎完全阻絕。他認為，童年是盼望奇跡、追求溫情、充滿夢想的時代，對比之下，大人死氣沉沉、權欲心重、虛榮膚淺。「大人應該以孩子為榜樣」。

於是作者選取了一個孩子看世界的角度，用孩子的童真、好奇心、和想更多了解這個世界的慾望來給成人講故事，尤其是給那些「童心未泯」的成人講，讓他們借小王子的想像力暫時忘記屬於大人世界的慾望，飛回童年，並反思現實生活，發現人生的真諦。
