背景资料：
本片是迪斯尼第3部经典动《幻想曲》的续篇，《幻想曲》是迪斯尼1940年推出的一部古典音乐非剧情动画片。原本沃特迪斯尼打算每隔几年就重推出《幻想曲》新版，每次新增或移除一些段落，然而后因为诸多因素此计划并未实行，一直到了近几年，《幻想曲》的续篇才正式开始制作，诚如沃特迪斯尼原本的构想，续篇保留了1940年版的某些部分，又再加入一些新的曲目。在影片完工后，迪斯尼公司作了一个部试映，普遍认为以当今电影的眼光来看感觉太长、节奏也太慢，而且本片又有IMAX版本，如果一部IMAX电影太长的，恐怕观众会吃不消，所以迪斯尼公司决定删掉一些1940年版本的旧段落，只保留下“魔法的徒弟（TheSorcerer'sApprentice）”。这样《幻想曲2000》的片长只有90分钟，而当年的《幻想曲》长达124分钟。
主要风格志在表现画面与音乐相互契合的纯视听享受，而相隔六十年，迪斯尼动画的技巧已不可与当日而语，本片的某些段落就运用了迪斯尼近年来最引以为傲的电脑动画技术。另外在内容方面，不但保留了米老鼠主演的“魔法师的徒弟”，连唐老鸭也主演了一个段落。
音乐：本片大部分段落由JamesLevine指挥的Chicago管弦乐团演出。“Gershwin'sRhapsodyinBlue”和“Dukas'TheSorcerer'sApprentice”两段由Philharmonia管弦乐团所演出。
