96年的影片中《Seream》是承袭了惊粟片的路子走下来的。虽然在情节构思上，《Seream》仍然未摆脱变态杀手连环杀人的旧体制。但这已成为惊粟片的一大特色，无可厚非。它一如心理的恐怖片一样，将观众自始至终放置于一个扑朔迷离的悬念之中，甚至别出心裁，在影片中运用了演员本身总结的恐怖片情节规则来增加恐怖惊险的气氛。当大学生们围坐在一起看恐怖电影，而凶手真的就如同他们所说的一样在杀人时，观众的紧张心理立刻就被勾引起来的。

如果只是这样，《Seream》只能说是部可以一看的娱乐片，但实际上它所包含的内容深层含义是较广的。它所起到的作用已不是一般的恐怖片那种让人紧张，追求一种感官刺激那么简单。除此之外，它带有对现代社会犯罪心理以及对人性的一种探索性质。犯罪业已成为西方社会机体上的一大毒瘤，而近年来的变态杀人狂又特别多，生活使人精神错乱，从而导致犯罪。就如同影片中所示，打开电视，新闻全部是报道各类凶杀案的。这种对社会现实的揭露与批判还是表层的意义。影片挖掘下去，对犯罪的原因从人性的角度予以重新认识。

对于犯罪来说，经常用的话语是它的动机如何。罪犯为什么去杀人， 总有一定的目的， 但这部影片无疑令观众大吃一惊。两个凶手，其中之一有一个勉强的理由，另一个却根本就是无动机。作为大学生，身受的教育不能说不够，但他们仅仅只是模仿恐怖电影的手法，为了追求一种刺激与新奇，而毫无目的地杀人。他们设计了精巧细致的圈套，让人无懈可击；他们用智能加上凶残的暴力，把杀人作为一种娱乐；他们的精神扭曲变态，甚至不惜自残。这一切，都是让观众胆颤心惊而又发人深思的。

第三部《人玩鬼》拍于1993年，故事紧接上一部，男主角被死亡之书带到了中世纪的英格兰，利用现代武器（其实就是一把霰弹枪和装在手臂上的电锯）打败了关在井里的恶鬼，又把亚瑟王踩在脚下，被“土人”们视为英雄。皇家大法师以取回死亡之书为条件，答应帮助他回去。但是这位猥琐的英雄自以为是，念错了咒语解开了恶魔的封印，释放出了邪灵的军队（就是那帮骷髅兵）。一开始，自私的男主角不愿帮助亚瑟王对抗邪灵，只顾自己跑路，还把美丽的侍女给办了，不负责任之极。不过最后在侍女的点化下总算迷途知返，利用化学知识（就是做火药啦，俺很奇怪这厮居然在车厢里放一本《化学大全》，真乃神人也）带领大家一起战斗，并在野蛮人的帮助下（估计就是“亚瑟王”里边的松兰人）打败了邪灵。
鬼玩人三部曲被《看电影》推荐为必藏恐怖片，导演是蜘蛛侠的导演山姆·雷米。不过大家也别抱太高期望值，片中的特技在当年已经显得落后（毕竟是小成本制作）。第一二部还可以一看，恐怖和搞笑都比较有张力，第三部相对比较怪异，恐怖的风格基本被搞笑完全取代，全片都没什么让人毛骨悚然的镜头，结尾更是突兀，估计是还想拍续集吧，如果要拍可能还值得期待，山姆·雷米现在可是今非惜比了，怎么也得是上亿的大制作吧。
