清晨，一名化妆成美国士兵的德国军官潜入到伊丽莎白家。他用枪指向伊丽莎白，并辱骂她为卖国贼。紧急关头德国中士汉斯用枪托击倒了他，救下了伊丽莎白，也救下了美国士兵。

德国士兵和美国士兵在伊丽莎白家度过了一生中最特别的圣诞节，他们分别时已经成为了彼此可以信赖的朋友。尽管战争距今已经结束了几十年，但他们彼此都不会忘记这段特殊的经历。
