嗯, 還是說電影吧.故事是少年勵志片.Akeelah是個黑人小女孩,家境不好,上的是那種沒有上進心的黑人區鄰里學校,拼寫測驗別人都是四,五十分,她得一百分,不敢給人知道,怕被視為怪胎.不過還是被拽去參加拼讀比賽,校長太需要正面的宣傳了,不然他到處要不到錢.結果她很厲害,一下子沖進區際比賽.不過要想在州里贏,她需要一個教練.於是摩菲爾斯大叔就來了. Laurence Fishburne天生一副老師架子,這一類的角色演來毫不費力.在他的督導下,Akeelah最後獲得了全國冠軍,比賽過程中也結交到了朋友.

情節是挺老套的,但是這部片有幾點讓我深感興趣.首先是學習方法.如何正確有效地學習,是我向來的興趣,如今已經是職業課題.Akeelah天資過人,她對單詞的記憶方法不拘一格,既有刻苦的死背功夫,也跟著摩大叔揣摩文句,探索詞源,為了幫助記憶鞏固,她甚至一邊跳繩一邊背單詞,效果奇好.讓我想起看過的一本關於學習方法的書,裡面談到有些人是運動型學習者,學的時候一定得動,有的人是視覺型,必須看過才記得住,而且對顏色鮮艷的內容印象深刻(我好象是這一類),還有的人是聽覺型,非得聽過才記得住,讀書也喜歡讀出聲.很有意思.Akeelah顯然是個運動型的孩子.她的學習方法非常靈活.

另一個看得津津有味的是拼讀比賽的過程.對於電影來說,如何表現比賽拼讀其實很難,因為沒什麼可以玩弄的畫面,就是一群孩子對著麥克風拼單詞.導演用盡一切手段讓比賽顯得有趣,應該說做得挺不錯的.至少不悶,也一直吊著人的胃口,為Akeelah擔心.當然對我個人來說,聽那些超長超變態的單詞覺得很過癮 (我有受虐狂).

其他方面,就是典型的家庭題材,當Akeelah進入全國比賽的時候,全區的人都熱烈參與起來,一切都變得非常美好.原本是競爭對手的上屆亞軍最後也化敵為友.那孩子是個華人,有個嚴厲再嚴厲的父親,逼著他這一次一定要拿冠軍.這孩子長大很可能不小心就是個大帥哥.

這片的好處是,雖然一切都是俗套,可是看起來並不俗,因為英文字的魅力,因為小演員Keke Palmer的出色表演,她把Akeelah的意志野心和恐懼都表達得很好,也因為編導嫻熟地控制各橋段的度,適可而止. Akeelah and the bee是部溫暖人心的,適合全家老少同看的中上之作,對孩子尤其有益.

這也是Starbucks Entertainment(星巴克娛樂)的第一部作品.看到它們的logo出現在銀幕上,差點把嘴裡的礦泉水吐出來.連星巴克都拍電影了!

Akeelah and the Bee is an excellent movie, and it deserves universal recognition for the unbelievably powerful message, storyline, and theme evident throughout. First of all, Starbucks's co-operation with Laurence Fishburne to proce the movie was a great move on everybody's part. And though many critics may say that Akeelah and the Bee was just another "inspirational film," lacking the originality and pungency necessary for good cinema, the people with such a belief just don't get it. Like Rudy (1993), Akeelah and the Bee is most certainly original in that the story is plausible, meaningful, and very emotional. The only real difference between the two films is that whereas Rudy is based on a true story, Akeelah and the Bee is completely fictional. Also, the fact that all of the real protagonists in the film are minorities brings an incredible new level to the silver screen. Very few recently released movies feature an African-American female--a youth, no less--in the role of the main character. And for viewers to see Akeelah--as well as her mother, her siblings, her best friend, her coach, and her other two spelling-bee companions: all of whom are minorities--achieve such great heights is most definitely "inspirational," and in the right sense. Even for the movie-viewer whose favorites are full of action, violence, and gore, Akeelah and the Bee strikes the heart directly. And for those who like the tear-jerkers, no better movie exists than this one. Without question, this film is one of the best I have seen in a long time, and many will agree that it is an exceptional piece of work. I would honestly be shocked if someone really believed in his or her mind that Akeelah and the Bee "was a waste of time."

Akeelah and the Bee is a feel-good movie about an 11-year-old girl trying to win an International Spelling Contest. Doug Atchinson received an award for the best screenplay of the year for this script some time ago. Now I can see why. Although the story is quite predictable, screenwriter Atchinson (who also directs) has delivered the script which is not only heartfelt and wise, but also surprisingly universal. I mean that everybody had in their life difficulties which need to be overcome on their way to achieve something crucial and I felt that this pic is about me at some points. Therefore, every viewer (not only the young) can easily identify with a young girl, Akeelah who attempts to make her boldest dream come true. The story unfolds very well and the dialogue is so meaningful and at times witty that the flick is a sheer pleasure to watch. It is a profoundly moving film giving wonderful lesson that the victory is not so vital as participation and others' feelings, which should be valuable not only for kids. Atchinson also lets the audience care about characters superbly played by all actors. The movie depends on Keke Palmer's lively, very likable character. A great Palmer, along with Dakota Fenning, belongs from now on to the first league of young actresses. Laurence Fishbourne (also procer), Angela Basset and J.R. Villarreal in supporting roles deliver also memorable performances. To summarize, I recommend the double-screening of this heartfelt, touching picture and Donaldson's World's Fastest Indian as a some kind of therapy thanks to which even the most blasé viewers will feel better.
